Sigma Phi EPSilon PAGE 2 A s a K-State graduate and alumna of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, staying involved with the university over the years has been second-nature for Diann Veith. "As an undergraduate in Alpha Delta Pi, I developed a close relationship with the sorority's housemother and this inspired me to follow in her footsteps and become a housemother as well," Diann says. As a new addition to the Kansas Beta Chapter of SigEp, Diann hopes to make a warm, welcoming impression on both members and parents alike. Impressed by the amount of success Kansas Beta has cultivated over the years, Diann plans to incorporate programs and activities that will enhance members' fraternal experience and help them become well-rounded men. These plans include having speakers visit the Chapter House each month to give lectures on important life lessons, such as safety, etiquette, and time management, to help the undergraduates prepare for life after college. "My ultimate goal is to get to know the men in the Chapter on a more personal level, including their backgrounds, interests, and aspirations," she says. "The men of Kansas Beta are a fine group of individuals, and I want to help them become the best versions of themselves. Kansas Beta has made significant strides the past few years and I am determined to help the Chapter stay on the right track." Graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, Diann has enjoyed a rewarding career in education for more than 30 years. "I am eager to use my experience in education with my daily tasks and responsibilities as housemother, which I believe will benefit the Chapter immensely," she says. After 16 years, Diann resigned from her position at a private school and has been the preschool director for the last 15 years at Brookridge Day School in Overland Park. In her spare time, Diann enjoys reading, playing cards, gardening, bird watching, and watching movies. She has four children, Christopher, Kerry, Caroline, and Timothy, and is proud that they have all grown up to be self-sufficient, successful individuals. "You learn everything about life through raising children," she says. Diann has six grandchildren and is always thrilled to spend time with them whenever possible. Despite her busy lifestyle, Diann is more than excited to serve the men of Kansas Beta as housemother and to help the Chapter achieve new heights. She says, "I am really looking forward to returning to campus and seeing how everything has changed or remained the same." This made cleaning these areas easier this summer as we prepared for the nearly 65 members who moved in on August 15. Sandy Ruthstrom started her fourth year as our cook. She consistently produces quality meals that the men like. We are lucky to have someone like Sandy who loves her job and strives to please the men. She drives in from Clay Center, Kansas, which is 90 miles round trip. Ice or snow, she did not miss a day of work last year. In terms of academics, we dropped from fifth to sixth in GPA rankings for fraternities at KSU with a 3.26. We also lost a few members who did not make the 2.75 GPA requirement. We will continue to emphasize this year that grades at Kansas Beta are paramount.
