Three veterans are currently on staff serving internships for the City as they transition from the military to civilian careers, and more interns will be added thanks to an ongoing partnership. Joshua Colbert is serving as a Financial Analyst in the City's Finance Department, Felicia Nelson is an Office Assistant in Finance and Veronica Brooks is a Business Analyst for Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation. Colbert served six years in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division, completing his military career as a Staff Sergeant. Jim Warner, Employment Coordinator for the VA on Fort Bragg, helped him get the City internship. Colbert met Warner at a resume building workshop. He has been with the City for a month and is busy working on several projects including an emergency 911 call report, Police grants and a monthly cash balance sheet. Colbert will be with the City for a short period of time since being accepted into graduate school at Syracuse University to pursue his MBA in Accounting or Finance. Felicia Nelson served 14 years in the Army as an Administrative Assistant and later as Flight Operations Staff Sergeant. She has been with the City for one month of a scheduled six-month internship working in Collections. Nelson has an Associate's Degree in Electronic Medical Records. She wants to use her experience with the City to get back into the field of medical billing and coding. Veronica Brooks served seven-and-a-half years in the Army and rose to the rank of Sergeant. Brooks served in 74 Delta as a Chemical Operations Specialist. Brooks' friend recommended her to the veterans program coordinated by Warner. She is currently working in Parks & Recreation as a Business Analyst. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Business with a concentration in Administration. She is taking Lean Six Sigma in September with the City and later hopes to get hired on Fort Bragg as a Business Analyst. Andrew Holland, Assistant to the City Manager, has coordinated the veterans program for the City. "It's been an honor coordinating this program and interacting with the veterans," Holland said. "For me, I've enjoyed bringing well-trained veterans into our organization and assisting the veterans with employment. In a city as patriotic as Fayetteville, we should always be thankful to our veterans and this program is also a way of showing our appreciation for their service." Airport Begins Expedited Screening Process for Active Duty Military Fayetteville Regional Airport has implemented an expedited TSA screening process for active duty military personnel. Any active duty member of the military with a valid ID card will be allowed to move through the line much quicker. This expedited process will speed up service at the Airport, providing improved customer service, which is what Fayetteville Regional Airport is known for.
