A s an out-of-towner, the warmth and kindness found at the Kappa house was overwhelming to Amy Al- corn Wittmann '76. It was a place that felt like home, and becoming a Beta Nu was a special moment in her time at Ohio State. Amy earned a degree in early childhood ed- ucation, and after graduation, moved back to her hometown of Chagrin Falls where she taught third grade. But her heart was in Columbus, so after a year away, she made the move back and became part-owner of Tiles of Columbus. She and her husband, Jeff, had three chil- dren, and for many years, Amy stayed at home with their children, serving in the Pleasure Guild, Childhood League, booster clubs, and church activities. Just after graduation, Amy worked as recruitment advi- sor, but the demands of work and family kept her involve- ment in Beta Nu limited, until the opportunity to work on the capital campaign arrived. "When I was first contacted about the campaign, I had to give it a lot of thought, because when I become involved in a project, I do it because I truly believe in it. My Kap- pa college experience would have been completely differ- ent had I not had the opportunity to live in the house as a sophomore. That is the year that you learn what sisterhood is—sharing meals, laughter, tears, a new roommate ev- ery quarter, the excitement of recruiting, watching pledges become actives—it all happens your sophomore year and I didn't miss a thing because I was living in. "I became involved in the campaign because I want every young woman who is a Beta Nu to have the same opportunity that I did. I can't imagine Ohio State without Kappa or Kappa without 55 East 15th Avenue. "I would encourage everyone to look toward the future of Kappa Kappa Gamma at The Ohio State University. There are so many young women to come through those doors who will benefit from this beautiful house. A place that they will make friends for life and provide a legacy for those to follow."
