The Rooster Tails Fish- ing Club monthly break- fast will be held at the Au- burn Elks Lodge on Friday, Aug. 19, and is open to club members, spouses and non- member guests. Doors to the lodge will open at 7 a.m. to share fresh brewed coffee. A $13 wide- selection buffet breakfast is served at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. special presen- tation by guest speaker Pro Fishing Guide Jeff Good- win, who will provide mem- bers and guests with his an- gling secrets for fishing the Upper Sacramento River salmon. Reservations are not nec- essary to attend the break- fast, but attendees are en- couraged to arrive by 7 a.m. for a good seat. In- terested non-member men and women anglers are wel- come. The Upper Sacramento River is the destination for migrating Pacific King Salmon with the famous Barge Hole being the fish- holding mecca for Northern California salmon anglers. Jeff will include in his pre- sentation tips for fishing for wild trout on a special stretch of the Upper Sac- ramento River above Red- ding. Jeff's expertise on ply- ing these challenging wa- ters is an accumulation of over 25 years of successful fishing and is in high de- mand as a guide. The Upper Sacramento River is considered to ex- tend from Shasta Dam, winding approximately 30 miles south, through the foothills between Redding and the diversion dam be- low Red Bluff. The Sacra- mento River holds by far the largest population of returning California Pacific Chinook salmon. There are four distinct runs; fall, late- fall, winter and spring, giv- ing the Sacramento River the unique distinction of having some salmon in its waters year-round. Fall King River Salmon season began July 16 and runs through Dec. 16. The fall salmon are most often the biggest and brightest salmon of the year and occa- sionally tip the scales in the 50-plus pounds range. The state record King Salmon weighed in at 88 pounds. Breakfast attendees will hear about one of Jeff's spe- cialties, his technique for boon-dogging roe for these powerful, often chrome- bright big fish. Jeff is a li- censed Fishing Guide by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The 30-year-old, more than 200 member Rooster Tails Fishing Club of North- ern California, Inc. is a non-profit organization that meets the third Fri- day of each month to edu- cate, entertain and enhance a fishing experience. Un- like many bass and fly fish- ing clubs that concentrate on very specific types of fish- ing, Rooster Tails provides a balancedmixoffishingtech- niques presented by fishing experts targeting a variety of fish species on multiple types of waters.
