"When you are here for the first time, you are a little nervous," Struxness said. "You hear about all the wrecks people have had and never hear about the good runs. Coming back for a second time, you are not as nervous." His more than $15,000 payday here gives him a legitimate shot to qualify for his first NFR. Tillar Murray, a 19-year- old barrel racer from Fort Worth, Texas, also com- peted here for the second time. "It is such an honor to run in the finals at Chey- enne, no matter how you do," she said. Murray, who will start her sophomore year at the University of Texas at Aus- tin next month, has had an up-and-down season. Earlier this year her horse was hurt, then her trainer Ed Wright died in March and she took a break from barrel racing. When she returned to competition, she began riding a differ- ent horse, Royal Star Com- mander, that carried her to the CFD championship. The biggest single event money winners in Chey- enne were team rop- ers Tyler Wade and Da- kota Kirchenschlager. The Texas duo won more than $17,000 each, not bad for a pair of cowboys who just teamed up four months ago. Kirchenschlager has qualified for the NFR twice with other partners, but he and Wade both missed last year's NFR by a slim mar- gin. This win puts them both in the top ten and in- creases their chances to rope in Las Vegas in De- cember. Reigning world cham- pion saddle bronc rider, and world standings leader, Jacobs Crawley from Boerne, Texas, put another notch in his gun here on Sunday. He won second in both preliminary rounds and was in the lead coming into the finals. He got on Korkow Rodeo's In- stant Noodle and scored 88.5 points to dominate his signature event. He added $16,480 to his earnings to widen the gap in the world standings. Orin Larsen from In- glis, Manitoba won the bareback riding with 255.5 points. Larsen qualified for his first NFR last Decem- ber. Then he won the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo in February and has been among the top three in the world standings since then. He earned $16,331 here. Blessing had a total time of 53.9 seconds to earn his second steer roping title. The Paradise, Texas, ag teacher won $11,033. Dates for the 121st An- nual Cheyenne Frontier Days are July 21-30, 2017. Rodeo FROMPAGE1 "That's brutal sometimes when you know all you have to do is make a par, and I haven't made a bogey all day,"Walkersaid."Youcome to the last hole, and just didn't want that to happen." He missed the green to the right in deep rough, pitched safely to 35 feet, rolling the first putt 3 feet by and getting his par. Harmon had a right to save the wine until his lat- est client won a major, be- cause Walker appeared to have all the goods. Yes, he's alatebloomer, thoughmost of that was due to some nagging injuries when he first got on the PGA Tour. He could hit the ball with power, and his putting is what other players envy. From his first victory in October 2013 to the way he held off Spieth in Texas, Walker won five times in 39 tournaments over a stretch of nearly two years and rose as high as No. 10 in the world. He played in the Ryder Cup in 2014 and the Presidents Cup in 2015. Golf FROM PAGE 1 for the Sprint Cup champi- onship. Buescher, who drives for underfunded Front Row Motorsports, was the beneficiary on a rare Monday race postponed a day by rain. With nasty weather punishing the track, NASCAR called the red flag with 22 laps left and parked the cars on pit road. Buescher was as much a spectator in the No. 34 Ford as the few fans left in the stands, though NAS- CAR let drivers get out of their cars after about 10 minutes as they waited out gloomy conditions. "I'm a little scared to get out," Buescher said. No need. He was de- clared the winner after about an 80-minute delay. He was doused with beer and water in a makeshift victory lane celebration in- side a garage stall, his Ford covered on rainy pit road instead of bathed in con- fetti. Brad Keselowski was second, followed by Re- gan Smith, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart. Jeff Gor- don finished 27th driving for the injured Dale Earn- hardt Jr. There are two major re- quirements to making the Chase: One is winning a race and the other is be- ing in the top 30 in points. Buescher will need to find a way to climb higher over Ragan in the final five races before the Chase field is set. NASCAR FROM PAGE 1 Texas also got Beltran, a proven postseason star, from the New York Yankees for righty Dillon Tate, the fourth overall pick in the 2015amateurdraft,andtwo other pitching prospects. "I think as a player, you know that this moment could happen. But when it happens, it hits you," Bel- tran said. Twice before in his ca- reer, Beltran was traded in midseason to a team with playoff hopes. Like the Rangers, Beltran has been to the World Series but never won the crown. The Yankees kept re- working their roster, try- ing to turn the best parts of a .500 team into a bright future. They had already traded relief aces Arol- dis Chapman and Andrew Miller leading up to the deadline.
