(AP) — Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf could spend 15 months locked down in Montana, first in a secure drug treatment facility and then in a pre-release living center as part of a judge's sentence following Leaf's guilty plea for breaking into a house and illegally possessing painkillers. District Judge Kenneth Neill sentenced Leaf on Tuesday to seven years with the Department of Corrections, with two years suspended if he abides by the conditions. Neill recommended that Leaf's sentence start with nine months at the Nexus Treatment Center in Lewistown, which he would be unable to leave, followed by time in a pre- release center. ''I'll never forget it. That was the last time I saw him.'' Riley and Daly were rivals as coaches, eventually became close friends and now they're linked once again. The National Basket- ball Coaches Association selected Riley as this year's recipient of the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award, which commemo- rates the former Detroit coach's life in basketball and his ''standard of integri- ty, competitive excellence and tireless promotion'' of the game. Riley is the fifth person to receive the award, joining Tommy Heinsohn in 2009, Jack Ramsay and Tex Win- ter in 2010 and Lenny Wilkens in 2011. ''This is not an award,'' NBA for more than 40 years, with 1,210 wins and 21 playoff appearances as a head coach, a slew of chari- table undertakings in Miami, Los Angeles and New York. Riley has been part of the he means a lot,'' Heat for- ward LeBron James said. ''You know, he put together this team, and we just look at his resume. We look at his experience either as a player, as a coach or as an executive. He's done some great things. ... Any insight that he gives you, he's giv- ing it because of experience. He knows all about it. He's won at the highest level multiple times.'' The award comes with perhaps extra significance this year, with so much attention on the 20th anniversary of the Dream Team — the team of NBA stars that went to the 1992 Olympics and won a gold medal, with Daly leading the way as the coach. ''I think the perspective was very clear what that See RILEY, page 2B Phillips will skip the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics together with her team because competition in her event begins the following day. The 31-year-old Phillips — granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II — will be treated just like any other Olympian when she com- petes, and that means she will be staying in the Athletes' Village. Phillips told reporters at a news conference Tuesday that she was very excited to be part of Britain's eventing team, a difficult disci- pline that tests dressage, cross- country and show jumping ability. ''It will be great to be part of the Olympics and get the atmos- phere and the buzz of being a part of it,'' she told reporters only strides away from the competition venue at Greenwich park. ''In the past, the equestrian has been based quite far out and this time they have made a big effort to have it as part of the Olympics and really nearby to the village, so it will be great to have the atmos- phere and benefit from that,'' Phillips said. At the London Games she'll be staying with others on the team — Tina Cook, William Fox-Pitt, Georgina French and Mary King. They are fierce competitors most times but a unit for the games. Phillips is aware that a lot of attention will be coming her way this summer because of her royal ties, but she seemed at pains not to make much of that. It took several persistent ques- Galvis is currently on the disabled list with a back injury and will begin serving his suspension imme- diately. MLB said Galvis tested posi- tive for a metabolite of Clostebol, a per- formance-enhanc- ing substance. ''A trace amount Freddy Galvis of a banned substance — 80 parts in a trillion — was detected in my urine sam- ple,'' Galvis said in a state- ment. ''I am extremely dis- appointed in what has tran- spired. I cannot understand how even this tiny particle of a banned substance got into my body. ''I have not and never would knowingly use any- thing illegal to enhance my performance. I have always tried to follow the team's strength and conditioning methods, listen to the train- ers, work out hard and eat right. Unfortunately, the rules are the rules and I will be suspended.'' Galvis had filled in nice- ly for injured second base- man Chase Utley before get- ting hurt. He was batting .226 with three homers, 15 doubles and 24 RBIs. It's likely Galvis will be on the DL for tions before she acknowledged that the queen was ''very proud.'' Both of Phillips' parents were British Olympians in equestrian events. Her mother, Princess Anne, competed in Montreal. Her father, Mark Phillips, is a two- time Olympian and gold medalist. When asked if she had spoken with her parents about their expe- riences in the Olympics, Phillips was almost comical in her brevity after saying they hadn't discussed it: ''Mum fell off and Dad is not a big talker.'' Even so, her delight in being part of the team was clear. ''I'm massively excited and honored to be in the team with these guys, as well as still keeping my fingers crossed, as there are still a few weeks to go and you the duration of his suspen- sion. ''It's disappointing,'' Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. ''We fully support the program and the decision. At the same time, we support the player, we want him to get healthy and get back on the field. We believe in the kid and think he has a great future for us.'' Galvis was pri- marily a shortstop in the minors and like- ly would've started at Triple-A this year because former MVP Jimmy Rollins plays his position. But Galvis moved over to second base in spring training to replace Utley and he made the tran- sition look easy with his out- standing glove work. "I'd like to apologize to my all my fans, especially here in Philadelphia and back home in Venezuela, to my teammates and to the Phillies organization,'' Galvis said. ''I am looking forward to putting this behind me, rehabilitating my back and returning to the Phillies as soon as possible to try to help them win another World Series.'' Queen's granddaughter ready for Olympic, not regal, treatment LONDON (AP) — Zara know what horses are like,'' she said. The former world champion and her horse, High Kingdom, had been considered a long shot until recent weeks. Yet the 14th in line for the British throne defied the odds, clawing her way to a spot onto the team after a strong performance at Bramham in northeast Eng- land. The moment is sweet for Phillips because she had to with- draw from competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics because her horse, Toytown, was injured. Will Connell, the performance director for the U.K. equestrian team, tried to put to rest any sug- gestion that Phillips had been selected because of her royal ties.
