Member Bedrooms – Gone will be the dark halls of the west wing.
In will be rooms that will have space to study, to watch TV, connect
to the internet, or just hang out. Gone, because they are no longer
legal, are the lofts. In will be two raised double beds with study
desks beneath. And gone are the outdated bathrooms, showers, and
toilet areas.
Living Room/Television/Media Space – While the living
room will be the same size, the new living room/television/
media space has been designed to be much more user-friendly.
Meeting new code requirements will require a wheel chair
accessible lift. And, keeping up with current-day amenities, two
new women's restrooms will be more easily accessible from the
living room/media center. The house parent suite has also been
expanded and completely updated.
The Residential Learning Center – The new Residential
Learning Center, a new but exciting concept, will make Florida Alpha a campus leader in recognizing the need to place emphasis on
academics and learning. To be named in memory of Brother Jim Lang '61, the Center will occupy parts of the first and second floors of
the east wing and will feature a Residential Scholar Suite, a visiting faculty office, a combination chapter room/class room, a library, and a
quiet study/conference room. A graduate student/scholar will be offered housing in return for academic counseling and advising. Trending
today are programs involving in-house course offerings and more and more internet-based course offerings. Note: A majority of the
undergraduate courses in the College of Business are offered online.
The Dining Room – The nearly 100-seat capacity dining room is
being completely reconfigured. Gone are the columns in the center
of the room. The new dining area features large windows and easy
access to the newly designed spacious terrace. And, meals will now
be prepared in a new state-of-the-art kitchen.
