Life in the garden — 49th flower show By KATHY BRAMHALL Red Bluff Garden Club This isn't about living in your garden, although some of us do at times. This is about all the wondrous things that do live and grow in your gar- den and sharing them with others. This is an invitation to participate in the Garden Club's 49th Annual Flower Show to the Fair- grounds May 1 & 2. What do you visualize when I say "Rainbow Butterflies"? Recently our schedule committee pictured colorful iris and begonias. These are just some of the specimens you can enter in the Hor- ticulture Division of our flower show. We also have a section for Lovely Ladybugs— our title for plants that come in flat, round form—dianthus, ger- beras, pansies. Our Hor- ticulture Division also has sections and classes for vines, cut herbs. arbo- real branches, vegetables, container-grown plants, combination plantings, and of course—roses. If you are growing plants and would like to share the result of your endeavors contact me, Kathy Bramhall. If you have a youth group looking for an activity--try growing plants! Our Youth Section is titled Moles & Voles. There are classes for Juniors (preschool to seven), Intermediate (ages 8-12) and Advanced (ages 13-18) for floral designs, con- tainer-grown plants, and artistic crafts (which must contain some plant mate- rial). For more information contact me at 527-9403. The Design Division of our show welcomes beginners in our Section titled Butterfly Chrysalis. Imagine arranging flow- ers with titles New Start or Fresh Beginnings. We also have a Section titled Little Crickets for small/miniature floral designs. Making minia- ture designs is a favorite of many. It takes ingenu- ity and skill to select the plant appropriate plant material for a small design, not to mention the mechanics of holding one of these babies together. Try it and enter the fun! We have a Section for designs made with all fresh plant materials— you don't have to grow it yourself! Try your hand at a predominately green design in the Crisp & Green class, or if you like lots of color, enter in the Garden Glory or Spring Rainbow classes. A personal favorite are Table Designs requiring use of dishes and linens as you would use on your dining table—plus you must include some plant material in a container or placed rhythmically through the design. Col- lect up your odd pieces of dinnerware and try doing a Table Design. We have classes for Champagne Brunch, Garden Wed- ding, and Oldies But Goodies. For instruc- tions, contact me. Everyone is welcome to the Red Bluff Garden Club. This month's meeting will be Feb. 23 beginning with refreshments at 12:30 and then the pro- gram at 1:00 featuring Bees. The address is 12889 Baker Rd. at the Union Hall. We hope to see you there. You can also visit the garden club's Web site: redbluffgardenclub.com. Red Bluff Garden Club is affiliated with California Garden Clubs, Inc.; Pacific region Garden Clubs, and National Garden Clubs, Inc. Students considered the potential risk that waste water facilities face during the biggest flush of the year in the US — the half time Super Bowl restroom break. At 5 p.m. upper-graders played in a mud bowl with Red Bluff Union High School coach Laird Richards officiating.
