"ThefireworksboothinTheHome Depot Parking lot is the only one in town that 100 percent of the proceeds goes to your fireworks show that will be happening this year due to all the support of this amazing community." —JenniferGuarino,co-chairwomanoftheTehamaCounty Fireworks Committee By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF A call for assistance was put out about 8 a.m. Tuesday to the Tehama County Sheriff's Department and the Red Bluff Califor- nia Highway Patrol by Anderson Police Depart- ment, who was in what turned into a two-county pursuit of a red 1992 Dodge pickup truck. The sheriff's logs show a call for the assistance came in at 7:53 a.m. but was canceled by Ander- son Police a short time later. Red Bluff CHP units picked up the pursuit shortly after it entered Tehama County. The pursuit, which ranged in speeds from 60 to 80 mph, began when an Anderson officer tried to make a traffic stop on a reckless vehicle that then got onto Interstate 5 heading south, a CHP spokesman said. CHP picked up the pursuit at Hooker Creek Road in the Cottonwood area at which point the Anderson Police bowed out of the chase. The vehicle was followed to Adobe Road where the driver got off Interstate 5, headed east and got back on northbound Interstate 5, the spokes- man said. Units, along with a helicopter overhead, fol- lowed the pickup back into Shasta County as far as Oasis Road, where a spike strip was success- fully deployed, deflating a tire. The vehicle con- tinued north on three tires until it reached the Pit River Bridge where it crossed the bridge, ex- iting at Turntable Bay Road. The vehicle came to the top of the off-ramp where it continued straight, going off the road and into the bushes, the spokesman said. The driver, who was later identified as John Salas, 27, of Stockton, was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail on the charge of evading a peace officer and other charges. THREE AGENCIES Pursuit goes overtwo counties Staff Reports RED BLUFF The Tehama Glenn Unit of the Cal- ifornia Department of Forestry and Fire Protec- tion, or Cal Fire, and the Tehama County Fire De- partment are reminding everyone to use caution this Fourth of July when using fireworks. Serious injuries and millions of dollars in property loss happen each year from wildfires sparked by fireworks, according to the news re- lease issued by Cal Fire. With California still in a drought there is the threat of devastating wild- fires throughout the entire state. Additionally, severe burns, amputations, blind- ness and in some cases death can be the result of Independence Day celebration. Cal Fire and the Office of the State Fire Mar- shal have provided fireworks safety tips that will help keep residences safe this holiday. Those in- clude using only State Fire Marshal approved fireworks, verifying local ordinances before pur- chasing and using fireworks, always reading di- rections and having an adult present, using fire- works outdoors only, never using fireworks near dry grass or other flammable materials, lighting one at a time and have a bucket of water and a hose nearby.
