8A Daily News – Saturday, June 9, 2012 in Education Scholarships Sierra Pacific Foundation Awards $450,000 The Sierra Pacific Foundation, the philanthropic organization founded in 1979 by the Emmerson Family, recently marked its thirty-third year in granting scholarships to dependent children of Sierra Pacific Industries' employees. The Foundation has awarded $450,0000 to 193 students to assist them as they attend colleges, universities and trade schools during the 2012-2013 school year. Since 1980, students have used in excess of $4,700,000 of our scholarship awards to help further their education. "Our family is very proud of our scholarship program and we view our scholarship awards as an investment in the future. Considering our current challenging economic times, we are especially pleased to help these outstanding young people further their education beyond high school and become tomorrow's leaders," said Carolyn Emmerson Dietz, Foundation President. In addition to scholarships, the Sierra Pacific Foundation contributes to youth activities and other organizations in the communities where Sierra Pacific Industries operates.
