What a privilege to know Erma Fields This past week we attended the ser- vice for Erma Fields at the Presbyter- ian Church. Erma was a very special person who was known by many Tehama County residents. She was a person who wore a smile for everyone. She always sat on the left side of the Presbyterian Church toward the front each Sunday. I enjoyed walking down to greet her on Sundays. I once told her that my maternal grandparents, Frank Fields and Elsie Fields who had lived in Colorado were both were deceased. We talked a while and Erma agreed that she would always remind me that she was a Field's and would be glad to remind me of my Fields Grandparents. Greeting her each Sunday morning was a great experience for me. Erma was active both in Mineral and Red Bluff. She worked at the Min- eral Lodge during the years when my parents brought my brother and me to Red Bluff, from Idaho. In later years Erma was worked at the Chicken Shack. Since the Chicken Shack was very often visited in Red Bluff it allowed us to see Erma's sweet smile as she cooked many an item including triangle donuts in a triangle donut machine. The triangle shaped donuts were placed in a large jar so that customers would be able to buy a donut to go with Chicken Shack cups of coffee. The donut machine at the Shack stopped working so we loaned one to the Chicken Shack so that Erma could continue making them. As I look at my Chicken Shack donut recipe, I automatically see Erma's smiling face. Erma was a member of Eastern Star, and was equally active in the Daughters of the Nile sewing club, where she was known for her famous embroidery and needle work. memories of Erma will lift us to high grounds and loving memories. I have a feeling that I will be humming one of her favorite hymns, "How Great Thou Art," for several days to come. Our The Lord is my shepherd: I shall Carolyn Barber cup runneth over.
