4A Daily News – Friday, June 8, 2012 Education in Tehama County KEEP ON LEARNING Bloodsource scholarships BloodSource is awarding a total of 110 scholarships to graduating seniors in Northern and Central Califor- nia, including four from Tehama County — Shae Mesker from Corning Union High School, Lianne Bertolucci from Los Molinos High School, Anna Curry from Mercy High School, and Sierra Scholzen from Red Bluff Union High School. Eligible students have participated on their high school blood drive committees, submitted an essay, and maintained a 3.0 Grade Point Average. These Blood- Source $500 scholarships demonstrate the single largest contribution from BloodSource to the commu- nity, recognizing the important life saving service stu- dents provide. Meredith Spencer, recruitment director, has high praise for student blood drive committees. "The blood drive committees never cease to amaze us with their enthusiasm, creativity and dedication," Spencer said. "We are proud to recognize students for the important work they do to help meet a critical health need." BloodSource hosted 279 blood drives at 137 high schools during the 2011-2012 academic year from Merced to Redding and from Vacaville to Tahoe. The stream of 34 can- didates dressed in the tra- ditional blue gown cap and tassel entered to the music of Pomp and Cir- cumstance played by Renee Holbrook, the school's piano and voice teacher. In his address to the students, Dr. Harold Viet- ti, executive director, challenged the young people to go forward in their lives confident that they have prepared them- selves and that they will be successful in whatever they choose to do. "Go out make good things happen," Vietti said. Linda Jo Bennett, a former student and gradu- ate of Shasta College, was the keynote speaker. In her address she quoted Dr. Seuss, one of her favorite authors, from his work "Oh, The Places You'll Go." "You've got brains in your head and feet in Courtesy photo Dr. Harold Vietti addresses the 2012 eScholar Academy High School graduates at the State Theatre on Wednesday, May 30. your shoes.
