Opening night will feature performances by Betray Your Own, Distortion Troll, The Mortis Sermon and Phuket Underwater. Phuket Underwater will be come out of retirement for a one-time appearance before their highly anticipated album It's For The Best arrives this fall. The group has been in hiding recording their album and has been planning to stay buried inside the studio until it is complete and ready for release. Known for their intense live show and humorous front man, Josh Kelly, the band has also been preparing to tour their brand of self- proclaimed acid metal meets punk worldwide in 2013. For the new-school head bangers out there The Mortis Sermon will Pawley Thomas are no strangers to the music and bar scene in Fayetteville. Both have put in their time and paid their dues working and helping to establishing several of the top clubs in town. On Friday, June 15, they will open the doors of The Drunk Horse Pub, their own version of what a music venue and bar should be. They plan to go big on their support for the local musicians by bringing in a variety of Fayetteville's top metal preform their brand of the metal sub-genre "death core". The band has playing heavily throughout the state from anywhere in between your local pub and your local church. Their sound is picking up popularity as they have been recently picked up by the independent label Compton Records. If you're a fan of bands like Impending Doom and White Chapel then this is the band you want to see. They are fast, heavy and punishing. Distortion Troll is the newest band to the music scene but the members have been playing the Fayetteville scene for years and are truly the metal veterans in town. Picture a southern Black Sabbath if you will; dirty, gritty, grimy and heavy with finesse. Guitarist Andy Lame describes the band as "sludge mavens" but masters might be a more appropriate word. They might possibly be the holy grail of metal, their greatness only believable to those who have witnessed it. The band features ex and current members of Fayetteville local acts Memphis Witch and Schmegma. Be sure not to miss out on these guys for a classic yet refreshing sound. Finishing out the night will be Betray Your Own — Fayetteville's best known metal act. They have opened for a slew of national acts coming though Fayetteville and throughout the state. This is for all the moshers out there and it does get intense on the floor when they play. With two albums already under their belt (the latest being Mammoth) and one more in production Betray Your Own has put their foot slam on the pedal and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They ride a fine balance of speed and groove that keeps their fans engaged during their whole set and are a really fun band to watch. You will keep your head bobbing from beginning to end and a smile on your face. Pub. It will be their opening night on Friday, June 15. Doors will open at 7 p.m., Ladies in free before 10 p.m. Admission for the public is $5 for 21 and over and $8 for 20 years old and younger. The Drunk Horse Pub is located at 5149 Bragg Blvd. in Carolina Square, next to the Peppermint Rabbit and Mickey's. All in all it looks to be a very exciting and fun night at The Drunk Horse RICKY SOETHOUT, Contributing Writer. COMMENTS? Editor@upand- comingweekly.com. WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM
