TheWomen'sMinistryof High Point Assembly, for- merly Bethel Assembly, will be having its 27th annual church yard sale 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, June 3 and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4, in the High Point Assem- bly gym at 625 Luther Road, across from Walmart. This annual fundraiser has been held every year since the church moved to its location on Luther. The sale funds numerous proj- ects, including local, na- tional and world mission outreaches, that this active ministry supports through- out the year. On Saturday only, cloth- ing will be $1 per bag. A snack bar will be available both days supporting the High Point Celebrate Re- covery Ministry. High Point Assembly is pastored by the Rev. Da- vid Blythe and has ser- vices, classes and fellowship groups for all ages. For fur- ther information, call the church office at 527-0445. HIGHPOINTASSEMBLY Women's Ministry to celebrate 27 years of yard sale fundraisers By Marilyn Adams Our character reflects our inner values. It is in- ward motivation that gov- erns our actions whether we are with others or alone. The Greek word for charac- ter is kharakter. It speaks of an engraved mark, which is a tool for stamp- ing, engraving, or mak- ing an impression. It is the word used in Hebrews 1:3 which says, "Who be- ing the brightness of His glory and the express im- age of His person, uphold- ing all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." The lines in an old hymn say, "Stamp Thine own im- age deep on my heart." Our character is who we are in the core of our being. Char- acter modulates our ac- tions, as a governor cur- tails the speed of a school bus. Decisions are weighed through our character. It is the motivation to do right no matter what it person- ally costs. Our character is our gift to others. Psalm 15 is a great ba- rometer to measure your character. Two questions are asked in verse one, and answered in the fol- lowing verses. "Lord, who may abide in Your taberna- cle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks up- rightly, and works righ- teousness, and speaks the truth in his heart; he who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honors those who fear the Lord; he who swears to his own hurt and does not change; he who does not put out his money at usury, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved." Character is integrity of heart and is our inner com- pass. It is our navigational instrument, like a sextant is to a captain of a ship. No matter which way our life turns, or how many storms we are in, proven charac- ter always points due truth. Proverbs 11:3 says, "The in- tegrity of the upright shall guide them, but the perver- sity of the unfaithful will destroy them." Proverbs 4:23-27 is like a compass. It says, "Keep your heart with all dili- gence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you. Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right be- fore you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil." Ephesians 5:15-16 says, "See then that you walk circum- spectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." One with diligence en- graved on their heart will do everything possible to walk in purity. They disci- pline their thoughts. They bring stray thoughts cap- tive and do not allow them to have a voice. Psalm 24:3-5 is another character barometer. It be- gins with two questions, and the answers follow. It says, "Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation." Have you diligently con- sidered your eternal fu- ture? Jesus Christ came to this earth to die for you. He paid your full penalty of sin, offering you forgive- ness of your past, present, and future sins. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." I urge you to accept His gift today and not neglect His offer of eternal life. MarilynAdamsaccepted Jesus Christ in 1958. A 1977 accident radically changed her life. Through that crucible the Lord wooed her into intimacy, teaching her timeless truths that sustain her, and permeate her teachings. Offi- cials say Scottsdale will bar the Satanic Temple from leading a scheduled prayer at a City Council meeting in July. City spokesman Kelly Corsette says Scottsdale in- formed the Satanic Temple's Arizona chapter that only representatives from insti- tutions that have a substan- tial connection to the Scott- sdale community will be al- lowed to give the invocation. Scottsdale now is making other arrangements for the July 6 invocation. Satanic Temple spokes- man Stu de Haan says the city has twice approved plans for the invocation — first for April 5 and then for July 6 when the group had to reschedule for logistical reasons. De Haan learned about Scottsdale's decision Mon- day afternoon. He says it's too early to say what the group might do next. The Satanic Temple's Ari- zona chapter is based in Tuc- son.
