GUZ BUZ 3 T his year, Gamma Upsilon has continued to make great strides both within our community and nationally. Over the course of the year, we welcomed 32 new members into our brotherhood, making our Chapter total 102 brothers. Accolades for Lambda Chi Alpha Our Chapter continues to prioritize academics and was awarded the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award last fall. Our Chapter began a new mentor program, which partnered upperclassmen with underclassmen that are in the same major, providing instrumental mentorship for younger brothers. We also won multiple IFC awards for Outstanding Risk Management, Outstanding Scholarship and Academics, and Outstanding Financial Management. Awarded for Philanthropic Service We hosted our first ever Lambda Chi Alpha Watermelon Bust in September and the Chapter raised more than 25,000 pounds of food for Feeding America. Our Chapter placed top five nationally for largest margin of increase for food raised in the fall semester. In the spring, we were recognized nationally for our work. Reconnecting with Alumni The Chapter also expanded alumni communication by hosting the largest two alumni events that this Chapter has had since we recolonized in 2011. Brother John Kanipe, GU 495 was presented the Lambda Chi Alpha Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to Gamma Upsilon and Lambda Chi Alpha at the spring alumni gathering in April. Setting Intramural Records This year, we had our best record in intramurals. The Chapter won championships in softball, indoor soccer, and basketball. In addition, we achieved second place in handball, dodgeball, and flag football. For all of the improvements we have made as a Chapter, I want to extend a thank-you to our great alumni. We would not be where we are today if it were not for the brothers who laid the foundation before us. Fraternally, Malcolm Benitz, GU 1229 Chapter President mbenitz@medicom.us ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN SPRING Gamma Upsilon Receives IFC and National Recognition John Kanipe, GU 495 receives a Lifetime Achievement Award at an alumni event in April.
