I t's an exciting time for the Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha and we are so thrilled to announce to our entire brotherhood an initiative the campaign board leaders have been working on over the past several weeks in order to help us reach our $2.5 million goal for our LCA: A Legacy of Excellence Continues campaign. At the Spring Alumni Band Party on April 22 nd , Brother Mike Penland, GU 781 announced that he would generously provide 50 cents for every dollar on any new gift or increased written commitment up to $100,000 made before our May 31 st , 2016, deadline. This is truly a unique opportunity for Gamma Upsilon. To Brother Penland, we thank you for your commitment and generosity shared. And to those brothers that stepped up and made a new pledge or one-time gift in order to help meet the challenge— we thank you. Think back on your time at NC State and all that you gained from your Lambda Chi Alpha membership. That is what our campaign is all about—ensuring that future generations of men have the opportunity to have the same Lambda Chi experiences we did. While we are so thankful for Brother Penland, and those that took advantage of his challenge, the work is not yet complete. There are other fraternities and sororities that want the lot assigned to Lambda Chi, and it's imperative we continue to collect as much cash as possible in order to show the university we are committed to being on Lot 20, and that we want to move forward with the project. If you have already given to the campaign, consider making an additional donation. Reach out to brothers in your class and share with them why you chose to support our campaign efforts. If you need help getting in touch with them, feel free to reach out to us and we can get you their contact information. This is the time to rally together with brothers and make a commitment! If you have yet to make a commitment to the campaign, the time is now! Use the enclosed pledge form TODAY and make your gift to Lambda Chi Alpha. Your gift has a chance to impact future generations of Gamma Upsilon members, and we need the support of all alumni in order to make this happen. This was the life of Bruce "Randy" Bateman, GU 582 prior to arriving at North Carolina State University. The men of Gamma Upsilon were friendly, had strong character, and appeared to be the sort of men he wanted to call brothers, giving Randy a place to call home and to forge lifelong friendships. Life in Lambda Chi was vital to Randy's development as a person. "It gave me a sense of belonging, [helped me] develop confidence, and served as an inspiration all my life," he said. At a recent reunion, Brother Jim Turk, GU 529 gave an invocation detailing the accomplishments of several brothers, many of whom have inspired Randy over the years. "It was a galvanizing moment that succinctly defined the character of Lambda Chi," Randy said. The LCA: A Legacy of Excellence Continues campaign was the perfect way for Randy to repay the Chapter for the wonderful memories, friendships, and life-changing experiences it provided him. "Lambda Chi touched all of us in different ways. It is a special duty to provide a legacy of what we had together, and to carry this on for future generations of Lambda Chis is an opportunity to give back," he said.
