Guest speakers included Tim Murphy, an investment advisor with Valic, a sponsor of the Association of California School Administrators, Tehama County Supervisor Bob Williams and Larry Champion, superintendent at The Tehama County Office of Education. Tim Murphy and Bob Williams presented the school with certificates acknowledging their being named a 2011-12 California Distinguished School and also for being awarded the Title 1 Achievement Award. Larry Champion conducted the closing remarks acknowledging the strong leadership of the teachers and administrators and the hard work each student put in to make this happen. In his comments he reminded everyone to follow a dream even though it is difficult to achieve, and that although the end is the goal, the jour- ney is what it is all about. On Monday, March 26, the students and staff sur- prised "Doc" Luanne with a celebration of balloons and cake. She was presented with a new nameplate for her desk by Dr. Harold Vietti, EdD, the director of eSchol- ar Academy. Richfield celebrates achievements "I realized that Captain Kelly's remarks are very meaningful, and that I believe all of my students can achieve their dreams if they just keep their goal in mind and work towards accomplishing it everyday," Schnase said. eScholar Academy is an online charter school and is a division of the Mineral Elementary School District. Corning High grad earns law degree at Hastings Cory Turner received his Doctor of Law degree from UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco on Sunday, May 13. Turner was one of 449 students who were members of the 131st commencement class at Hastings, the old- est law school west of the Mississippi and part of the University of California system. Turner's law school work included a concentration in the field of Social Jus- tice, and he earned membership in the Pro Bono Soci- ety. Turner grew up in Corning, attended Corning Ele- mentary schools, and graduated from Corning High School in 2001. He graduated with honors from Cali- fornia State University, Chico in 2006 with a B.A. in Political Science. He is the son of Lee and Judy Turner of Corning. Turner and his wife, Mahalley Allen, will return to Chico in the fall where she is Professor of Political Sci- ence and Legal Studies Coordinator at CSU, Chico. Local students make Simpson Dean's List Simpson University is pleased to announce the names of two Red Bluff residents who made the Dean's List (GPA of 3.50 or above) in Simpson's tra- ditional undergraduate program for the spring 2012 semester. The two students are Laura Nasise, Nursing and Elizabeth Thomas, Business Administration. Simpson also recognizes students who graduated with distinction from the ASPIRE degree-completion program. These students are eligible for Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society for continuing educa- tion students who receive a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Among those students, four are from Tehama Coun- ty: Jason Lee Beeman, Business and Human Resources Management, Red Bluff; Becca Lee Elliott, Liberal Studies, Red Bluff; Marianne Elizabeth Hethcoat, Organizational Leadership, Red Bluff and Stephanie Ann Salisbury, Liberal Studies, Vina Simpson University's spring commencement took place April 28.
