DATE: 5-18-12 S/By:Jessica Crawford Deputy OF THE COUNTY OF TEHAMA, CIVIL DIVISION Publish: June 1, 8, 15 & 22, 2012 LEGAL NOTICE IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER Este información muy importante sobre su agua potable. Tradúzcalo o hable con alguien que lo entienda bien. informe contiene The City of Red Bluff Public Wa - ter System Has Levels of Total Coliform BacteriaAbove the Drinking Water Standard The City of Red Bluff (CRB) water system recently violated a State of California Department of Pub- lic Health (CDPH) drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our custom- ers, you have a right to know what you should do, what hap- pened, and what we are doing to correct this situation. We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. We took 27 sam- ples for coliform bacteria during April 2012. Three (3) of those samples showed the presence of total coliform bacteria with one of the three samples also showing the presence of fecal coliform. However, the presence of fecal coliform bacteria was not confirmed in follow-up test- ing. If we had, we would have notified you immediately. The drinking water standard is that no more than 1 sample per month may show the presence of coliform bacteria. What should I do? You do not need to boil your water or take other correc- tive actions. This is not an emergen- cy. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. Total coliform bacteria are gen- erally not harmful themselves. Coliforms are bacteria which are naturally present in the environ- ment and are used as an indica- tor that other, potentially- harmful, bacteria may be pres- ent. Coliforms were found in more samples than allowed and this was a warning of potential problems. " are a sign that there could be a problem with the distribution system (pipes). Whenever we detect total coliform bacteria in any sample, we do follow-up testing to see if other bacteria of greater concern, such as fecal coliform or E. coli, are present.
