SPRING 2016 Inside Striving to be a Balanced Man - 2 SigEp Soars in Spring - 3 Where Are They Now? - 4 ΣΦΕ C O L O R A D O A L P H A s U N I V E R S I T Y O F C O L O R A D O S I G M A P H I E P S I L O N FlatiroN THE W e have continued to make improvements to the Chapter House, both inside and out, as we keep pace with the growing number of active members. LAYING DOWN NEW TURF At Homecoming 2016, the Chapter and our valuable alumni will be able to enjoy new synthetic turf in the yard. With the extensive, positive use the yard sees, we believe the switch to a synthetic turf will be a big improvement and allow us to host more events year round. CHAPTER UPDATES RECYCLING PRACTICES With the City of Boulder's mandate on bear proofing garbage containers in and around The Hill, Colorado Alpha took the proactive initiative among fraternities on campus to go with bear- proof outside garbage bins, compost bins, and a recycling bin. Inside the Chapter House, a recycling station will help to reduce landfill and will actually reduce our monthly garbage costs. ADDING TO THE KENT HICKMAN STUDY In the last issue of The Flatiron, we announced the new Kent Hickman '61 Study. We are working this spring to add new framed prints of memorabilia to the study and upgrading old ones, further making this room a special place for both undergraduates and alumni. ALUMNI HELP NEEDED FOR CHAPTER VIDEO We are producing a high-quality video of "Colorado Alpha...Past and Present," which will be used in our recruiting efforts and will serve as a tribute to our long legacy. To make this video truly reflective of the Colorado Alpha legacy, we need your help as alumni. If you have any photographs that you would like to submit for this important project, please forward them to Allen Robie '82 at robiewan@msn.com. TV ROOM RENOVATIONS We continued our improvements to the interior of the house by installing new, durable carpet in the TV room just in time for spring recruitment. Combined with the new TV, we are well on our way to creating a space to match the impressive Kent Hickman '61 Study across the hall. To facilitate our ongoing improvement projects, we continue to welcome donations and gifts. The Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) was excited to welcome new members to the board in recent months, and continues to encourage anyone interested in getting involved to contact AVC President John Delva '11 at johndelva@ gmail.com to receive information on upcoming meetings.
