The number of children in need of foster care has increased in recent years. A Foster Care Awareness Fair will be held May 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cliffdale Regional Branch Library, located at 6882 Cliffdale Rd. DSS also hosts foster parent information sessions on the third Thursday each month at 12 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. To be a foster parent, you must be at least 21 years old, a Cumberland County resident, have sufficient room in your home and be financially stable. For more information, call 910-677-2541. Social Services partners with agencies such as Falcon Children's Home, N.C. Kids Foster Care and Adoption Network. Foster Care Awareness Fair May 21 at Cliffdale Library Social Services Hosts Senior Health Fair May 18 The Cumberland County Citizens' Academy Class of Spring 2016 graduated April 26 in the Pate Room in Headquarters Library. The graduates are Curtis Brown, Linda E. Bryant, C. Wayne Collier, Carolyn Collier, Betty Davis, Ted Donovan, Charles Fuller, Monika Fuller, Victor Glover, Kay Harris, Ambrous Jacobs, Sue Johnson, Daryl Johnson, Gaby Kienitz, Jackie Kubinski, Daphine Little, Jean McArthur, Montrell McDonald, Marriane McLean, Daniel Middleton, Karen Moore, Sandra Napier, Devon Newton, Adam Noriega, LaVern Oxendine, Georgia Pate, Marty Sierra-Donovan, Ebony Smith, James Stubbs, Joann Tackett, Mary Taylor, Toni Terry, Virginia Ware, Randolph Washington and Sameria Zavala. With 35 graduates, this was the largest class to complete the program since it started in 2012. The Cumberland County Department of Social Services will host the 11th annual Senior Health Fair May 18 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the first floor conference rooms of the DSS building at 1225 Ramsey St. The Senior Health Fair is for people in the community age 50 and older and their caregivers. The fair will be held in observance of Older Americans Month, which is celebrated in May. This year's theme is "Blaze a Trail." There will be vendors present with information about resources and services available for senior citizens in the community. There will also be entertainment, music, snacks and door prizes.
