SIGMACHI 3 T he spring 2016 semester has been great for Lambda Chapter of Sigma Chi. We were able to initiate 17 new members and have excelled in many other areas. From academic success to extracurricular involvement, the men of Sigma Chi are setting an example of leadership for our peers, prospective students, and the surrounding community. We are pleased with our continued growth and success, and look forward to building on it next fall. Academics Remain a Priority This past year, members of Sigma Chi continued to succeed in the classroom. Our members achieved a 3.156 GPA, which is above the all- Greek council average and higher than our GPA last year. Our members continue to focus on scholarship and strive for academic excellence. Greeks Give Back Donations Needed Sigma Chi brothers set themselves up for success outside of the classroom by capitalizing on the opportunities provided by the university to fulfill leadership roles across campus. Austin Gilmore '18 initiated the Greeks Give Back Habitat for Humanity build, a combined community service event with the other Greek chapters at IU. The event involved more than 15 chapters and is well underway. We are still looking for donations to support this project and any amount is welcome. Please visit morgancountyhabitat.com/make-a-donation and identify "Sigma Chi GGB" in the special instructions to make your contribution today. More than $50,000 Raised for Cancer Research This semester, the men of Lambda Chapter put an emphasis on making a difference in the community. Our Dropping the Puck on Cancer event sold out in a record 25 minutes and raised more than $50,000 for cancer research. Though our hockey team was unfortunately defeated 7-2 by our rivals, Beta Theta Pi, we are extremely proud of the success of the event overall. Derby Days was also successful with a record number of participants. Our second annual Faceoff for the Forces lacrosse game against Phi Gamma Delta also had a record number in attendance. Success in The Little 500 We were paired with the women of Alpha Phi this spring for The Little 500. Our bike team, led by Tim Ryan '17, has grown in membership and worked constantly to ensure their success. Over the past several months, they spent countless hours training and went on multiple trips to prepare, including the spring break training in Marco Island, Florida. During the qualifying round, our team posted the 12th highest time, a large improvement from last year. We are extremely proud of our team, their hard work, and Lambda Chapter's 12th place finish in the race. Thank You, Loyal Alumni Alumni, thank you for your continued support and guidance. We would not be the Chapter we are today if it weren't for the example you have set. The men of Lambda Chapter are proud to add to the rich history of Sigma Chi. By striking a balance between academic success, philanthropy, and social involvement, our active members are leaving a lasting impact on Greek life, on campus, and in the surrounding community for years to come.
