Marie says she enjoys the parade every year. Her favorite part is when the color guard comes by and everyone stands to honor the flag and country. PARADE Round-Up Parade judge honored CONTRIBUTED PHOTO The Red Bluff Kiwanis Club will be hosting its annual Round-Up Pancake Breakfast fundraiser 7-10a.m. Saturday at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge, 355Gilmore Road. The event is the club's largest fundraiser of the year and helps to send up to 100 local children to a free week of camp each summer at Camp Tehama. Tickets are $5each and available from any Kiwanian and at the door. FUNDRAISER Kiwanis to host pancake breakfast before parade The Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Com- merce will host its 62nd annual Round-Up Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday with the theme "Irons in the Fire," honoring this year's Grand Marshals the McK- enzie Family. TheMcKenziefamilyhas been involved in the Red Bluff Round-Up since it be- gan in the early 1920s. Ab- ner and Jack were pickup men in the beginning years with Abner continuing on to become arena director of the Round-Up. Abner's grandson, Zane Glines, is a director of the Round-Uptoday.Abnerand Jack were also involved in the beginning years of the Red Bluff Bull Sale. Abner and his friend, Bill Owens were instrumental in start- ing of the Red Bluff Geld- ing Sale. Abner and Jack's sis- ter, Thelma, won the char- iot race and cowgirl race in 1922. Her nieces, Hazel and Scotty won the cowgirl races in the 1970s. Darrell Conrad, son of Bertha McKenzie Stover, was also involved in the Red Bluff Round-Up in the 1920s and was involved with the Red Bluff Bull Sale as well. Darrell had a column in the paper called "With a grain of salt," un- der the pen name of "The Big Steer." Darrell's daughter, Cheryl, wrote a book "Too Many Irons In The Fire," all about the family history. All of the McKenzie fami- lies have participated in the Round-Up Parade for many years and are very proud to be the Grand Marshals of this year's Parade. Riding on the float in the parade will be John Ford, Becky White, Jacqueline Leininger, Janice Hilder, Bert McKenzie, Bobi Met- calf, Gayle Pool, Walt Rucker, Lynn Fargo, Dean Conrad, Cheryl Haase and Linda Rosser. Horseback riders in the parade will be Hazel Brown, Scotty Ulch and Pattie McKenzie. The parade will travel east on Walnut Street in downtown before turning south onto Main Street.
