A nother season has come and gone within the brick walls of the house at the end of campus—a Shelter each of us called home. Whether you attended Homecoming, volunteered with the undergraduates, or just stopped in on a recent journey through Indianapolis, a great majority of us were drawn to 4340 Haughey Avenue this past year. Within this Shelter, we laughed, we cried, we learned to lead, we made lifelong friendships, wives were met, businesses were created, and partnerships were made. Whatever Beta Zeta means to you, our Shelter has always been our home. During Butler's Homecoming this past fall, more than 200 alumni and undergraduates gathered to commemorate one of the most important milestones in the 138 years since our original charter—the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Matt White Wing. This ceremony, led by David Wachter '89, Russell Nichols '02, and Steve Vedra '02, marked the culmination of six years of planning and aspirations for the future of Beta Zeta. The evening was centered around the alumni cocktail event, and was attended by Shartrina White, with Matt White '89 via FaceTime, and the parents of the late Ed Seaver '92, Libby and Stuart Seaver, each of whom were able to cut a section of the ribbon. Also during the evening, Austin Dempsy '01, Sean Howard '93, and Rick Waywood '89 were presented with green jackets for their generous support of the Matt White Wing and Shelter renovation. Shartrina and Matt were presented with a commemorative plaque, as were Austin and the Seavers—similar to the plaques affixed to the walls within the new addition. The master donor plaque was also unveiled, so if you haven't yet seen your name listed, let this serve as a good reason to stop by the Shelter and check it out. If you are being recognized with a brick or paver, the first round of stones will be laid this spring in the rear courtyard. I believe our continued alumni accomplishments are contagious to our undergraduates. On January 10, Beta Zeta welcomed 34 new members into the 2016 pledge class with an acceptance rate of 95%. This pledge class contains six legacies, which is the highest number in recent history that we are aware of, and includes Johnny Evans '19, Matt Flynn '18, Josh Karter '19, Thomas Kopelman '18, Stephan O'Connor '19, and Connor Wiley '19. Shartrina White, wife of Matt White '89, and the parents of the late Ed Seaver '92, had the honor of cutting the ribbon during the ceremony. Photo credit: Jeff LeFors '05 (Continued on page 2)
