ByMarilynAdams God'swillismultifac- eted. One facet is thanks- giving. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 He says, "In every- thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." Give thanks in everything? That is His written will for us to fol- low. In Psalm 136:1 we find, "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. For His mercy endures for- ever." This verse lays out the foundation for our thankfulness. The Lord is GOOD in capitol letters. It is His nature. Yes, even the trials that He allows in our lives are for our good. Each time we thank Him for our trial He is honored. We are stating that He is good no matter what our circumstances may be. We are also stating that He is Trustworthy. We pur- pose to trust Him in our present circumstances. He truly is in control of all things. Nothing goes with- out notice in our lives. He is orchestrating every sit- uation in our lives for our good because He is GOOD. He cannot work outside of His own goodness. The prophet Habak- kuk understood this prin- ciple. In Habakkuk 3:17 he writes that even though the fig tree doesn't blos- som, there is no fruit on the vines, the olive fails, the fields yield no food, the flock is cut off, and there is no herd in the stalls, even then he will be thankful. Verse 18 says, "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salva- tion." He is declaring that God is good even in the face of such devastation. Paul says much the same thing. Romans 5:3 Amplified declares, "More- over (let us also be full of joy now) let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our suffer- ings, knowing that pres- sure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endur- ance." He is saying that right now, in the midst of our trials, is the time to triumph in joy. James 1:2 says, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials." How can we be joy- ful in our trials? Jesus set the example for us. In He- brews 12:2 it says that He endured the cross because of the joy set before Him. Look at the end of the life of one who has believed in Jesus Christ as their per- sonal Savior. Jude verse 24 says, "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to pres- ent you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy." The joy set before Jesus is us. The joy set before us is Him re- ceiving us with joy. Another facet of God's will is that no one should perish. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slack con- cerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering to- ward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repen- tance." If you have never come to a saving knowl- edge of God, you can do this right now. Romans 10:9-10 says, "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Je- sus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." The heart and the mouth have to agree in order to be- lieve. It is impossible for God to lie; therefore you can take Him at His word. We are eternal beings. We will live on after we die on this earth. Where will you spend eternity? It is God's will that you spend it with Him. MarilynAdamsaccepted Jesus Christ in 1958. A 1977 accident radically changed her life. Through that crucible the Lord wooed her into intimacy, teaching her timeless truths that sustain her, and permeate her teachings. Find her on Facebook at J. Bethany Bohrer, daugh- ter of Pastor John and Carol Bohrer and a gradu- ate of Red Bluff Union High School, will be at New Life Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. The church is meeting at the El Camino Method- ist Church on 99W in the El Camino area. During the morning worship hour, Bethany will be presenting a monologue on the life of Annie Armstrong, an early leader in the Wom- an's Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Con- vention. Bethany serves under the North American Mis- sion Board as a Mission- Service Corps Collegiate Missionary in the Sacra- mento area. This is the kickoff for the March emphasis of the North American Mis- sion Board of the Southern Baptist Convention week of prayer and offering. Everyone is invited to come to this special service. NEW LIFE BAPTIST Missionary to speak Sunday in El Camino BethanyandJohnBohrer. The Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff, 838 Jefferson St., will be reading aloud "The Wartime Sermons of Dr. Peter Marshall" during the season of lent. The public is invited to join the congregation at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. March 2 will be a particu- larly meaningful sermon, titled "The Greatest Ad- venture," first preached by Marshall on Jan. 31, 1943 in New York Avenue Pres- byterian Church, Washing- ton D.C. This sermon tells the story of Captain Eddie Rickenbacker and his men — one of the most amazing tales of WWII. Forced to ditch their B-17 bomber in the ocean, Rick- enbacker and his seven- man crew were adrift for 22 days in three rafts in the Central Pacific ocean. While none of these men really knew God very well when their plane crashed, God became very real to them all during their ad- venture at sea. Come and hear the story of their ordeal at sea and how God became a part of their lives. Bring along your questions and doubts, for these men certainly had theirs as they faced death daily until their rescue on Nov. 11, 1942. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Wa rtime sermons to be read during lent By Bruce Shipkowski The Associated Press LAKEWOOD, N.J. James Jackson didn't want to sell his home but thanked the black-suited man for his in- terest anyway. That's when the man put his hand on Jackson's shoul- der and told him he might want to reconsider. Many of his neighbors in the New Jersey shore town of Toms River, the man said, already plannedtoselltoJewishbuy- erslikethoseherepresented. "He asked me why I would want to live in a Hasidic neighborhood if I wasn't Hasidic," Jackson re- called. "He asked if I would really be happy, if it would be in my family's best inter- ests." A housing crunch in Lakewood, home to one of the nation's largest popula- tions of Hasidic Jews, has triggered what residents of neighboring communi- ties say are overly aggres- sive, all-hours solicitations from agents looking to find homes for the rapidly grow- ing Jewish community. The complaints have prompted towns, includ- ing Toms River, to update their "no-knock" rules and related laws, adding real es- tate inquiries to measures that already limit when so- liciting can occur and al- low residents to bar solici- tations. But Jewish leaders and others say the no-knock laws unfairly target Ortho- dox Jews and those seeking to help them find houses. Many current residents came to the community to study at one of the largest yeshivas in the world and eventually settled down. The 2010 census found the town had nearly 93,000 residents, about 32,000 more than a decade earlier. And town officials believe there are closer to 120,000 residents now. "The growth in Lake- wood is a sign of the great quality of life which is at- tracting all these people," said Avi Schnall, the state director of Agudath Israel.
