Our Tradition, Our Key, Our Future 3 Once a Kappa, Always a Kappa Kelly Noteware Tallo '92—Why I Gave S isterhood is not only for four years, it is for life. For Kelly Noteware Tallo '92, this could not ring more true. Very few individuals have the opportunity to develop powerful, lifelong friendships and have a place to call their home away from home; Kelly found these opportunities in Delta Psi. "My mom was in a sorority and I always knew that I wanted to become part of something much bigger than myself as well. Delta Psi helped me become the woman that I am today, and I could not be more thankful to be part of a sisterhood that encourages me to be successful in every aspect of my life," she says. The unforgettable memories that Kelly made in Delta Psi motivated her to give to the campaign, benefitting undergraduate women for years to come. Kelly knows that an attractive, up-to-date chapter house is a tremendous source of pride for undergraduates and alumnae. Through this campaign, Kelly hopes that Delta Psi alumnae will join her in giving back to secure a new facility that will continue to allow undergraduate women the opportunity to develop friendship, leadership, loyalty, and service, just as she did. "This campaign is a great opportunity for Delta Psi alumnae to show their loyalty to the chapter like others did for us, and pay it forward. I am so proud of all of the exciting things that Delta Psi has accomplished over the years, and I am confident that Kappa will remain among the most respected sororities on campus," Kelly says. "I think you start to develop a good sense of who you really are during your college years. My years as an active Kappa provided me with the opportunity to set high standards for myself and define my core values," she says. After graduating with a degree in restaurant, hotel, and institutional management, Kelly worked for the Harvey Hotel Corporation for two years, and now serves her family as a stay-at-home mom. After marrying her husband, Len, Kelly joined the Richard/Plano Night Owls group and served in various positions for several years. She cherishes the time she spent jumpstarting the McKinney Area Alumnae Association in 2012, in which she served as treasurer. "Being involved with the alumnae association has provided me the opportunity to connect with Kappas from different chapters. It has been incredibly fun—once a Kappa, always a Kappa!" In her spare time, Kelly enjoys spending time with her 11-year-old son, Peyton, volunteering at his school, working out, participating in boot camps, boxing, and playing tennis. Last summer, we had several members study abroad throughout Europe, and had two members study in Fiji during the fall semester. While we have members doing great things abroad, we also have many members doing great things here in Lubbock. The fall brought one of our favorite events—Homecoming! Several of our new members participated in So Sing, our Homecoming dance competition, where we had a fantastic time with our partners, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Our senior Homecoming court nominee was Riley Johnson '12, who made us all proud by representing Delta Psi. Reading Is Fundamental is Kappa's national philanthropy. We partnered with Ervin Elementary School to read at the after-school program three days a week throughout the fall. One afternoon the whole chapter attended and each member was paired with a student to read a book and do a fun activity. This has been a very successful event and has taught our members the importance of our philanthropy. Recruitment was successful and we were excited to welcome the new member class of 76 outstanding women! On September 19, we had Presentation for the new member class. We welcomed these women into our sisterhood at initiation on October 17. We cannot wait to see how our new members flourish as women of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Last semester, we really wanted our members to appreciate the values that sisterhood holds, so we held sisterhood events, which were a huge success! For our first event the chapter paired with Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and held a car wash with proceeds going to the YWCA. This was a great time for our members to get to know one another and also give back to the community. Other sisterhood events included a corn maze, a movie at a local theatre, and a day at the park with all of our sisters. In November, we had our semi- formal, which was a great event to celebrate all the great things that happened during the fall semester. We ended the semester with officer changes. I am so excited about our new chapter council. I know that each of the women will go above and beyond in their positions to truly make this chapter the best that it can be. Preparations for the new lodge this past semester have taught us how to be very flexible. Thanks to the generosity of Laura Vinson, Epsilon Upsilon '91, we have held our chapter meetings at Prosperity Bank. Many of our traditional activities have looked a little different, but it is all worth it as it brings us closer to our new lodge. We are eternally grateful for the support and contributions of our alumnae. With your support, we will make our new lodge the pride of Greek Circle—and we can't wait to make it our new home!
