The Sig Scroll p. 2 J ack Allen '69 was hired by the Chandler Frates and Reitz Agency in 1976 and within three years became the company's top salesperson. He eventually purchased the agency and grew the company from 12 employees to one of the largest insurance agencies in the region with 100 employees. In 2012, he sold it to HUB International, and now he remains with the company as chairman of HUB International CFR. Jack shares that his passion is education, as both an enabler and a solution to self-improvement. In 2002, he established the CFR Education Foundation in order to further support his goal of improving lives through public education. This foundation has made significant contributions to many education-related needs, including endowed chairs, scholarships, teacher excellence awards, building projects, and special educational programs. Jack has earned several awards and honors in addition to being named a Significant Sig. The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research and Rough Notes magazine voted Jack one of the 25 Most Innovative Agents in the nation. He was also named one of the top 100 graduates of the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State and was inducted into the Spears School of Business Hall of Fame. G amma Delta continues our quest to be among the top fraternities in recruitment, scholarship, and the debt retirement for the Chapter house. Alumni involvement is a critical component of these goals. Your ongoing and loyal support directly impacts the future of Gamma Delta. We are thankful for the 50 donors who donated in our 2015 giving cycle. So far, we've raised over $60,000 for the Sigma Chi Endowed Scholarship Fund. M ore than 50 years ago, Joe Porter '64 made the decision to become a member of the Gamma Delta Chapter of Sigma Chi. As an alumnus, Joe has stayed involved with the Chapter, making visits to the house nearly every month. "I joined for a sense of belonging, and I remained active for 55 years because of the brotherhood. Being a part of the unique group of individuals has hopefully made me a better person," Joe says. During college, Joe served as the Chapter's treasurer and studied natural sciences and general engineering. Sigma Chi continued to play a role in his life after he graduated. When Joe was hired for his first job after college, the interviewer and recruiter was also a member of Sigma Chi. Joe worked as a consulting petroleum engineer before he retired. As an alumnus, Joe has made sure to dedicate his time to help the Fraternity and its active members continue their success. He is active in various alumni support activities, served on the House Corporation Board, and is currently working on compiling the history of the Gamma Delta Chapter. Joe says, "I think the actives are doing a great job of representing the Fraternity and carrying on its ideals." In addition to keeping up with the actives, Joe stays in frequent contact with about a dozen of his Sigma Chi brothers. He says it's important for alumni to stay involved and in touch because if they don't, they're missing out on the reason they are members of Sigma Chi. Joe has also supported Sigma Chi by getting involved with the scholarship program to support undergraduates. "I donated to the scholarship campaign because I feel obligated to give back to my Fraternity. Sigma Chi helped me become who I am today by providing a standard by which to conduct myself and how to live my life. I think it's important to remember that we are all Sigma Chis for our lifetime." Joe lives with his wife, Kathleen, outside of Arcadia, Okla. He is still active in oil and gas operations. E-mail: portengr@hotmail.com Myron C. Ledbetter '48 Joseph A. McClure '49 Francis E.
