All eight Kiwanis Clubs in Dis- trict 39, which includes Red Bluff, were present along with represen- tatives from seven high school key clubs, who are associated with Kiwanis. "We're trying to bring more awareness of the club to the com- YOUTH KiwanisClubs hold children's fair in honor of governor's visit Staff report REDBLUFF Tehama County Sher- iff Deputies and Red Bluff Police Officers responded early Monday to Red Bluff Outdoor Power on Antelope Boulevard for a report of an alarm activation that re- sulted in a burglary and $19,000 in losses. The officers discovered the un- known suspect had pried open the front security gate before smash- ing both front door windows, ac- cording to a press release issued Monday by the Red Bluff Police Department. The suspect stole multiple Stihl and Husqvarna chainsaws and several Honda generators esti- mated at around $17,000 in value, according to the release. Damage to the front door was estimated to be about $2,000. The business was the victim of another burglary with similar circumstances in September 2015, according to the release. In the previous incident an estimated $26,000 in equipment was taken. The case is under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the police depart- ment at 527-3131. CRIME Business burglarized with $19,000 in losses By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter REDBLUFF Heavy rains and loud thunder rolled through Red Bluff as a Tornado alert for Tehama County was dispatched about 2:30 p.m. Saturday by the Na- tional Weather Service. The alert, which was issued out of the Sacramento Forecast Cen- ter, was for the area of Red Bluff south along Interstate 5 down to Gerber and Las Flores. The warn- ing remained in affect until 3:15 p.m. According to a bulletin on the National Weather Service website, at 2:33 p.m. a Doppler radar pre- diction indicated severe thunder- storms capable of producing a tor- nado were in the area of Red Bluff and to the south of the town mov- ing southeast at about 10 mph. The bulletin advised precau- tionary measures that included moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy build- ing and avoiding windows. Those in a mobile home or outside were urged to move to the closest sub- stantial shelter to protect them- selves from flying debris. Those on the road were told not take shelter under highway over- passes. JULIE ZEEB — DAILY NEWS By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The annual Jim Ow- ens Memorial JP Ranch Rodeo took place Friday and Saturday at the Tehama District Fairground, raising money for local youth and putting local ranch hands' skills to the test. Competitions included ranch hand bronc riding, ranch doctor- ing, dally calf roping, ranch sort- ing, calf branding, ranch horse class and herd counting. The 2016 event, which cele- brated the 21st anniversary, was once called the Red Bluff Ranch Rodeo prior to it being named for Owens, a long-time cattleman. "This year the kids of the origi- nal committee members took over the committee," said Travis Mar- tinez, whose father Tyler Marti- nez was on the committee for a number of years. "We're expect- ing 3,000 people for the finals and about 5,000 over the two days of events. Each year our goal is to have bigger scholarships and bet- ter prizes." The new committee is working on updates, like the website www. JPRanchRodeo.com, and securing new sponsorships with a goal of between $2,000 and $3,000 new sponsorships each year, Martinez said. The goal is by the 2017 event to have things set up for people to use PayPal to purchase tick- ets. Anyone interested in spon- sorships can call 949-4241.
