National Artists Headline Festival by JANICE BURTON Since its inception, the Dogwood Festival has always incorporated great music into the mix. This year is no different, as the festival welcomes, not one, not two, but three national recording artists to the Festival Park Stage. This is a fi rst for the festival, as is the idea of charging for a concert. Carrie King, the director of the festival, explained the rationale behind the fee-based concert on Friday night. "By having a ticketed venue for one night of the festival, we have the opportunity to provide something bigger and better for our community," said King. "The idea has been well received from the community at this point, but Fayetteville is a last-minute kind of community, so I can't wait to see how many fans we are really going to have to see Gretchen Wilson on the stage." King said that initially the plan was to offer a free show, as in year's past, but the committee could not fi nd a country singer that would perform within the budget. With the ticket, they were able to sign Wilson, who is one of country's leading female singers. "We really went outside our budget for this show, but I think it will pay off," said King. Wilson is an American country-music artist who made her debut in 2004 with the Grammy Award-winning single "Redneck Woman," a number-one hit on the Billboard country charts. The song served as the lead-off single of her debut album, Here for the Party. Wilson followed this album one year later with All Jacked Up, the title track of which became the highest-debuting single for a female country artist upon its 2005 release. A third album, One of the Boys, was released in 2007. Overall, Wilson has charted 13 singles on the Billboard country charts, of Gretchen Wilson is headlining the Bloom and Boom Party to kickoff the Dogwood Festival. which fi ve have reached Top Ten: the Number One "Redneck Woman", as well as "Here for the Party", "When I Think About Cheatin'", "Homewrecker" and "All Jacked Up". Tickets for Friday's show are are $10 on ine through etix (cut off for online sales is Thursday April 26). Tickets can also be purchased at Wet Willies for $15. A limited supply of tickets will be available for purchase at the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival offi ce during normal business hours. (Monday – Friday 8 a.m to 3 p.m.). On Satuday, the Spin Doctors will rock the stage at 7 p.m. The Spin Doctors is an American alternative-rock band formed in New York City, best known for their early 1990s hits, "Two Princes," and "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong," which peaked the Billboard Hot 100 charts at #7 & #17 respectively. The current members are Chris Barron (vocals), Eric Schenkman (guitar and vocals), Aaron Comess (drums and percussion) and Mark White (bass guitar). Later that evening, EVE 6 will take the stage at 9 p.m. EVE 6 is an American rock band from Southern California, who are most well known for their hit singles "Inside Out" and "Here's to the Night". They disbanded in 2004, returned in 2007 with a new lineup, and fi nally reunited with all three original members in March 2011. They announced their signing to Fearless Records on May 3, 2011.
