KidStuff Brings Fun to Dogwood Festival by CAREY CLARK The weather is warming up and spring is in the air! We all know what that means! The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival is right around the corner. As in years past, there will be plenty of opportunities for your children. For the ninth year, the Partnership for Children of Cumberland County will host Partnership's KidStuff, the children's area, presented by Wet Willie's. This year Partnership's KidStuff is located in Festival Park on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29. Partnership's KidStuff is a free and safe area for young children ages 5 and under to enjoy the festival atmosphere while families learn about local programs and resources. Fun, hands-on, activities will provide entertaining and enriching educational experiences that reinforce the concept that playing is learning. This year there will be a science focus with partners Discovery Place and Cold Blooded Encounters. The Toddler Zone, a big hit with the festival's youngest visitors the past four years, will also be returning. The Toddler Zone offers our youngest the opportunity to get out of their strollers and have a great time in a safe environment and with favorites such as the mini-slides, blocks, water and sand tables and games sized just for the little ones. Says Jeff Hylland, PFC board charmain, "We host Partnership's KidStuff every year because we believe children learn best through play, especially when they are doing it with the significant adults in their lives." Onward & Upward 2012 Featuring mercyme IN CONCERT So Cute, So Fun, Cold Blooded Encounters bring kids face to face with reptiles and amphibians during KidStuff at the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival April 28-29. PFC's Evening with the Stars Pre-Oscar Gala, which was held in late February, helped to provide funding for Partnership's KidStuff through its generous sponsors. Partnering sponsors included: Cape Fear Valley Health System, Fayetteville Observer, Gill Security, Jeff Hylland, Trinity Child Care, United Health Care, and Valley Auto World. And while children learn through play, adults learn about resources available throughout the region and share feedback with PFC. During Partnership's KidStuff, PFC conducts a Family Needs Assessment. The overall goal of this study is to provide parents and citizens of our community an opportunity to give their opinions concerning the challenges that PFC should address in order to ensure that young children are healthy and prepared for future success. PFC is the nonprofit organization that supports early care and education providing professionals and parents with resources to prepare children for success in school. PFC achieves its mission through administration of the Smart Start school readiness initiative and N.C. Pre-kindergarten program in Cumberland County as well as several other grants.
