Garden Party to Benefi t Boys and Girls Club by KAREN POPPELE your fi nest hat and come join the party — the Garden Party, that is, hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cumberland County. An offi cial sanctioned event of the Dogwood Festival 2012, this annual adults-only event for the children takes place on Friday, April 27, from 3-7 p.m. at Cross Creek Park in downtown Fayetteville. Tickets are $50 per person and available online at www.ccbgc.org as well as at the door. Ladies and gentlemen, slip into your sundresses and seersucker suits, don Williams, chief professional offi cer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cumberland County. "We're asking all the ladies to dress in sundresses and big hats and men to dress in linen or seersucker suits. We're having a contest for the best hat and the best-dressed man." Last year, about 175 people attended the tented event. "We are planning for at least 225 folks coming out this year," Williams said. "That's what we're shooting for. If we have more, we can accommodate more." Tickets to the event, planned by Just Jenny "This is our third year doing it," said Don $30,000 for the club. We're hoping to surpass that this year. Our committee is working with the sponsors," Beaver said, which include Wells Fargo, Lily of the Valley, Longmire Counseling and Miller-Motte College. Chef Mei will provide heavy hors d'oeuvres and RA Jeffreys and Healy Wholesale, an open beer and wine bar. Musical entertainment will offer hits from Motown to today. "We will have a band from 3-7 p.m. from Raleigh, the Reality Show Band. They play '60s, '70s, '80s and music of today," Beaver said. "Don Chase of WKML is going to serve as our emcee for the event, and Fayetteville Mayor (Tony) Chavonne will be speaking on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs. "We are glad to have people come out. We accept cash or check at the door. It's a great afternoon. We end at 7 p.m., and that gives you enough time to walk over to Festival Park for the Gretchen Wilson concert." Designs & Events, include live music, food and beverages. Jenny Beaver served as a volunteer and chair of the Garden Party in 2010. She then started her own business, and for the past two years, has worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs to help the event's success grow.
