Kiwanis Talent Night Puts the Spotlight on Talented Kids by SHANNON ANGRY Do you have a talent like singing or dancing that you want to showcase to the public? Well look no further. In its 61st year, the Fayetteville Kiwanis Talent Night is slated for May 11. "This event is really about the kids," said Jason Poole, the Fayetteville Kiwanis president. "It is a chance to help the kids build self esteem, and get used to being in front of people." While the contest does have winners and losers, Poole pointed out that every performance is about building up the performers. "There is no critiquing like you see on American Idol or anything like that," he said. "This is all about building the kids up and watching them grow." The organizers must be doing something right, since there are kids who perform every year and have been doing this for close to a decade. The event is targeted toward children from preschool to 12th grade. It allows students to showcase their talents for the entire community. This event has been held every spring for the past 60 years and is sure to be entertaining. All the proceeds from the event go toward local Kiwanis' projects that benefi t youth.
