W hile the Delta Gamma experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the chapter house, our Epsilon home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and is a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. The Epsilon House Corporation works hard to regularly maintain the facility. In anticipation of the 100th celebration and to keep in line with current codes the air conditioning and fire sprinklers were added prior to the centennial celebration. Additionally, alumnae support during the centennial allowed the house corporation to update décor and make other critical infrastructure updates, including wood and roof repairs. While this renovation was important to maintain the facility, it has become clear that we must make a major long-term investment in our entire chapter house if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and support our collegiate sisters. Our Growing Chapter Membership • Greek life at Ohio State is growing and the demand for the fraternal experience has never been greater. We started the fall 2015 semester with 145 members. In the coming year, our chapter will grow to more than 200 members, for the first time in our history. Sleeping only 36, our chapter house lacks the adequate space to serve a membership of this size. • Not only do we need to add critical sleeping quarters, but we also need to update our community space to accommodate our full membership. The original chapter house was built to accommodate a chapter size of 60. With nearly 200 active members regularly attending chapter activities, such as weekly chapter meetings and nightly meals, accommodating all of our members has become increasingly difficult. OSU Sophomore Transformational Experience Program • The Ohio State University Board of Trustees recently approved the Second Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). As part of the program, all second-year students will be required to live on campus by 2016. Living in a Greek facility will be the only exception to this requirement. As it stands, we cannot house the entire sophomore class, let alone important junior and senior chapter leadership. Housing Competition • Epsilon has one of the smallest sleeping capacities among sororities on campus. Knowing they must live on campus sophomore year, potential new members will now take into account sleeping capacity when making their decisions. In addition, Ohio State is building new residence halls to accommodate the sophomore on-campus living requirement. Competition is strong and we cannot allow DG to be left behind other chapters on campus. The Urgent Need for Space
