MARCIOJOSESANCHEZ—THEASSOCIATEDPRESS San Francisco 49ers running back Shaun Draughn (24) runs against the Arizona Cardinals during the second half in Santa Clara on Sunday. ByCamInman BayAreaNewsGroup SANTA CLARA As a newcomer himself to the 49ers starting of- fense, guard Andrew Tiller appre- ciates how reliable running back Shaun Draughn has become in place of injured Carlos Hyde. How reliable? Draughn played all 56 offensive snaps in Sunday's 19-13 loss to the Arizona Cardi- nals. "Shaun runs hard. I like Shaun back there," Tiller said Monday. "He's getting into a groove. He's got our trust up front." Draughn made his starting de- but three games ago, as did quar- terback Blaine Gabbert. It's also about the same time Tiller took over at right guard for Jordan De- vey, and after Vernon Davis got traded to the Denver Broncos. The 49ers (3-9) remain far from boasting a potent offense but en- couraging signs have emerged as they head into Sunday's game at the Chicago Bears. TheBearsareamongDraughn's seven former employers. He joined them at the start of the 2014 off- season, and he got cut two days after they spoiled the 49ers' Levi's Stadium opener, a 28-20 Bears win that included two Draughn penalties on special teams. "That guy is playing his tail off from a protection standpoint, running the football, catching the football out of the backfield," Gab- bert said after Sunday's 19-13 loss to the Cardinals. "He's what you want in a running back." Before Draughn became an ev- ery-down option, he was an every- town journeyman. He entered the NFL in 2011 as an undrafted rookie with Wash- ington, then bounced to the Kan- sas City Chiefs, the Baltimore Ra- vens, the Indianapolis Colts, the Bears, the San Diego Chargers, the Cleveland Browns and, on Nov. 2, the 49ers. "Shaun has done a real nice job," coach Jim Tomsula said. "He's sturdy. He's running well, running hard. His pass protection the past week was really good. He's doing everything as an ev- ery-down back." That's meant no carries the past two games for Draughn's backups, Kendall Gaskins and Travaris Cadet. With the game tied at 101 with 51 seconds left, Curry hit a 3-pointer from the left wing to give the Warriors the lead. Rod- ney Hood scored 14 seconds later to bring the Jazz within one. After Curry missed a 3-pointer, the Jazz had a chance to take the lead, but Hood missed a 3 from the wing with five seconds left. Curry hit two free throws to seal the victory as Gordon Hayward's half-courter at the buzzer fell way short. Klay Thompson added 20, including four 3-point baskets. Hayward led the Jazz with 24 points. The Warriors have won 23 straight regular-season games dating back to last season. NBA WARRIORSWIN19TH STRAIGHT, BEAT JAZZ By Rob Maaddi The Associated Press PHILADELPHIA Kobe Bryant's farewell tour begins in the city that loves and hates him. Bryant will play his first road game since announcing he'll re- tire after this season in his home- town Tuesday night against the winless Philadelphia 76ers (0-18). The five-time NBA champion's relationship with Philly fans has been turbulent throughout his 20- year NBA career in Los Angeles. Some love him. Some hate him. Regardless, nearly everyone re- spects his superstar talent. With the 76ers, Eagles and Fly- ers all struggling, Bryant's return was a hot topic on sports radio on Monday. "I always enjoyed watching Kobe play and consider him one of the greatest ever, but he didn't want to play for the Sixers so I held that against him," said long- time Philadelphia sports fan John Passero. "But if the Sixers couldn't win it all, I rooted for Kobe." No doubt, Bryant will get a rousing ovation in an arena where he's heard mostly boos over the past two decades. People don't come to watch the Sixers, who've lost an NBA record 28 straight games and are one defeat away from breaking the league record for most losses to start a season. Stripped of his starting job last week for not keeping a promise to Cleveland's coaches, Manziel is surprisingly active for Mon- day night's game against the Bal- timore Ravens and is the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Josh McCown and backup Austin Da- vis. Browns coach Mike Pettine would not commit to having Man- ziel dress last week, but the team decided to have him as one of the 46 active players, saving the for- mer first-round draft pick further embarrassment. After being elevated to Cleve- land's starter for the team's fi- nal six games, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner told Pettine and other coaches he would behave during the team's bye week and not become a distraction. But when a video surfaced of Man- ziel partying in Texas, Pettine decided to bench Manziel, saying the 22-year-old had violated the team's trust. The Browns will have three quarterbacks active on game day for just the second time this sea- son.
