A s I sat down to write this, a song comes to mind, "The times they are a changin'." This line keeps popping into my mind. Our chapter has lived this line over the last 38 years since I graduated from Mizzou, and I'm sure everyone can say the same when they walk through the doors of the chapter or read updates in this newsletter. It's hard for some of us to understand these changes, but as the world continues to grow, so does Gamma Phi Beta. Our Volunteer International Leadership has done a great job keeping up with the times and I encourage everyone to check out the new website at www.gammaphibeta.org. NEWSLETTER SENT VIA E-MAIL This year we have made changes not only to the chapter house, but how we communicate with alumnae. Some of you are now receiving this newsletter via e-mail, which helps the House Corporation Board save thousands of dollars in printing and postage each year. I hope to add more alumnae new e-mails in the future. However hardcopies of the newsletter continue to be available for those without an e-mail address. If you know someone who would like to receive this newsletter, please send me their e-mail address at christyehren@gmail.com. RENOVATING CHAPTER DÉCOR As an HCB, we have made some very noticeable changes to the décor of the chapter house. I encourage everyone to step through the front door, which is also new, of your chapter house and see the new colors that have come to the chapter. Over the summer, we concentrated on some major renovations: changes were made to the living room and laundry room areas, the outside front steps were rebuilt, a new front door with security system was installed, we added new plaster to smooth out the walls coming down from the second floor to the front door, and we painted the first and second floor hallways and rooms. We are tackling the painting of the interior of the house in sections, and next summer, we will finish painting all rooms and hallways. MIZZOU GREEK LIFE CHANGING The appearance of the Greek community at Mizzou will be undergoing many changes in the future. Several sororities have revealed plans to be build new chapter houses in the coming years. The Delta Gamma chapter house is being torn down this year, Zeta Tau Alpha will build a new chapter house next year, Kappa Kappa Gamma has announced they are building an addition onto their chapter house, and Alpha Phi plans to rebuild their house within the next five years. I can assure you that HCB is taking these changes into consideration, and will share plans with you as they become available. THOUGHT AND LOVE FOR MOM KIM We are sorry to announce that our house director, Mom Kim, has suffered another loss this fall with the passing of her father. Since Kim has taken this position, she has lost her mother and father. The girls have all rallied around her, and I know she feels their support, and ours, as she tries to move forward in her life. We are so thankful to have her in our chapter house! Since this is our last newsletter before we turn the calendar page to another year, I will wish everyone a very peaceful and happy new year in 2016. The chapter already has a new executive board elected and they are training to take over at the start of the New Year. We look forward to welcoming them to the HCB and want to thank outgoing President Olivia Zellers '13, Financial Vice President Alex Roco '13, and House Manager Claire Wills '13 for a great year and their superior job leading the chapter.
