SIGMACHI 3 T he Lambda Chapter returned to campus this fall with a focus on Chapter improvement and increasing campus involvement. Our members continue to be leaders on campus and spearhead positive change during a transition period in the Greek community at Indiana University. RAISING SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS We started the year with a strong sense of initiative from several of our current brothers. A group of 15 members, led by Shawn Horty '17, partnered with Culture of Care to organize a sexual assault awareness and prevention event. Their efforts are unprecedented in the Greek community and highlight the positive impact that our members can have on an issue that is plaguing the Greek community across the country. MEMBERS TAKE LEAD IN GREEK-WIDE PHILANTHROPY Austin Gilmore '18 and four other members have begun planning a Greek-wide Habitat for Humanity house build. Indiana University has consistently called for a unified Greek philanthropy event, and the brothers of the Lambda Chapter have steppd up and answered the call. The build is projected to take place during spring of 2016. MEMBERS HOLD LEADERSHIP POSITIONS ON CAMPUS Sam Luebbe '16 is the president of the Indiana University Dance Marathon, which will take place this fall. He has inspired numerous members to take on leadership positions in the organization and has created a culture in the chapter that is extremely supportive of the event, which raised more than $3.2 million dollars last year for the Riley Hospital for Children. NEW ACADEMIC INITIATIVE IMPLEMENTED We ended the past semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.15. We recognize that there is room for improvement in academics, and our scholarship team has a program aimed at increasing the Chapter GPA. The initiative is a mentoring program in which our new pledge class is grouped together with a scholarship chairman with the objective of ensuring the new members have a smooth transition into college. FALL RECRUITMENT EFFORTS SUCCESSFUL After fall recruitment, Lambda Chapter extended bids to 30 strong candidates. Magister Pat Cosgrove '16 said, "I foresee strong potential in the fall 2015 pledge class to be worthy brothers of Sigma Chi and also significant assets toward the advancement of the Chapter." Lambda Chapter is proud of our recent accomplishments and is looking forward to another great year. We encourage alumni support and input in all that we do, so please feel free to reach out to us soon.
