ByChipThompson editor@redbluffdailynews.com @editorchip on Twitter LOS MOLINOS A strong Los Mo- linos Bulldogs volleyball season came to an end Thursday night when they ran into a talented Durham Trojans squad and lost the match in three sets, 25-12, 25- 16 and 27-25. Outplayed through the first set, the Bulldogs started to gain some traction in the second. The Bull- dogs went down early 9-2 thanks to a serving run by Durham's Emma Brown, but were able to come back from a 10-point deficit to pull within 6 at 18-12. The Tro- jans were just too tough and were able to put away the game 25-16. The third game was a differ- ent story. "That last game is how we should have played the whole time," Los Molinos coach Chas Konopka said. The Bulldogs jumped ahead early, going up 3-1 but some un- forced errors tied it up at 6. Neither team would lead by more than 2 points until errors on the Trojans' part put Los Molinos up 16-13. The Trojans regained their focus and pulled ahead 18- 16 and held the lead until the Bull- dogs tied it at 22. More Durham errors and some stellar defense from the Bulldogs gave Los Molinos a shot at tak- ing the game at 24-23. Durham re- gained the lead 25-24 before Los Molinos tied it at 25. The final Durham points came on a spike and a tap over by the Trojans' Lindsey Bryant. "We played our very best and we were fortunate to win," Dur- ham coach Dan Gellermann said. MARCIO JOSE SANCHEZ — THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FILE San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman celebrates a er a Nov. 8game against the Atlanta Falcons in Santa Clara. By Janie McCauley The Associated Press SANTA CLARA Ian Williams passed NaVorro Bowman in the locker room earlier this week and reminded his teammate they would be returning to Seattle's home field and the scene of major injuries from the 2013 sea- son that temporarily derailed their careers. "I was like, 'We're back, we're live up there, we're back,'" Williams said of finally being able to play again at CenturyLink Field after their respec- tive, grueling rehabilitations. "He just smiled at me. It's our first time back up there. It's going to be excit- ing I think for both of us." Bowman hasn't played in Seat- tle since a frightening and devastat- ing left knee injury during the NFC championship game in January 2014. He later had surgery. For Williams, it was earlier that season. He began 2013 as starting nose tackle, then sustained a sea- son-ending lower leg injury in a 2013 Week 2 loss on a cut block by Seattle right guard J.R. Sweezy. Williams un- derwent four surgeries near the an- kle— having screws and plates put in and then removed — and began the next training camp on the phys- ically unable to perform list follow- ing an offseason setback. They're both healthy now. Bowman, who leads the NFC with 88 tackles in his impressive come- back season, had hoped to return last year but wound up sitting out all of 2014 as his knee slowly recovered. "It'll be real humbling for me understanding the last time I was there," Bowman said. "I'll never for- get the exact spot that it happened. I've been thinking about that for the past couple weeks. It will be very humbling for me just to approach it again and be able to just play on that field again and have a good game." THESCORE By Michael Wagaman The Associated Press ALAMEDA Defensive coordina- tor Ken Norton Jr. has no short- age of reasons why the Oakland Raiders have gone from owning one of the best run defenses to one of the worst. Bad tackling, breakdowns in fundamentals, players being out of position. The list goes on and on. Norton even pointed the fin- ger of blame at himself, citing his need to be a better teacher. "It's a little bit of everything," Norton said Thursday. "You can't put it on one thing. Our tackling is something we really put our foundation on, and somewhere along the way that failed us." Whatever the case, the Raiders' inability to stop the run the past two weeks has become a glaring problem that threatens to derail NFL Raiders suddenly struggling to stop run By Ben Walker The Associated Press NEW YORK Bryce Harper began this season with one personal goal — and it had nothing to do with homers, RBIs or awards. "All I wanted to do was stay healthy and stay on the field ev- ery day," he said. Harper did that, and a lot more. The Washington slugger put be- hind his injury-plagued past and put up huge numbers, becoming the youngest unanimous MVP winner in baseball history when he captured the NL honor Thurs- day. Toronto third baseman Josh Donaldson took the AL MVP af- ter helping to boost the Blue Jays back into the postseason for the first time since 1993. "We tore down a lot of thresh- olds this organization has had," he said. Harper turned 23 on Oct. 16, after his Nationals had already missed the postseason.
