BASEBALL Lassen 3 Red Bluf 4f By RICH GREENE DN Sports Editor The Spartans overcame an early deficit with a bar- rage of small ball in the second inning, then rode Robby Lasby's hot bat to a 4-3 win over visiting Lassen, Friday. The Spartans improved to 11-2 with their 10th consecutive victory. Lassen held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second when Tyler Reed led off a rally with a walk. Lasby singled past the shortstop and Taylor Figgs executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. Reed would score on a pass ball and Garrett Sandow pinch running for Lasby came home on a Mitch Fox sacrifice bunt. Reed got things going again in the fourth inning after he was hit by a pitch. Lasby then doubled him home and came around to score on a passed ball. The four runs were enough for Figgs, who seemed to pitch stronger as the game wore on. Red Bluff heads to Sacramento for tourna- ment play, beginning Monday with games slat- ed against Merced and Cosumnes Oaks. On Tuesday Red Bluff has Kennedy and Bur- bank. The Spartans' Raley Field game against Rio Linda was rescheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Spartans are now 3-0 in Eastern Athletic League -South play. Home course advantage helps Spartans gain edge The Lady Grizzlies made some costly mistakes on defense in the inning and the Lady Spartans took advan- tage of everyone of them. Tayler Zazueta opened the inning with a single. Next, Krista Rodriguez laid down a sacrifice bunt and beat out the throw when the ball was bobbled as it was being picked up. Brittney Fletcher, Bryce Etzler and Zazueta followed with consecutive RBI sin- gles and the Spartans lead ballooned to 7-0. Lassen picked up a run in the fifth inning off of a Red Bluff error, but the Spartans struck back. Kasarah Bosetti, Emily Larzabal and Savanah Car- rillo loaded the bases in the blink of an eye and Haley Harris and Fletcher each drove in a run to make it 9-1. McColpin pitched five innings to pick up the win and Etzler closed out the game pitching the final two innings. The Lady Spartans are 9- 1-1 on the season.
