The grass is not growing in this cold, dry spring, and the milking mothers are not getting fat. It is nearly April and we have not had the brilliant displays of wild flowers this spring. Usually the yellow Goldfields make the road side and pastures a colorful picture. This year Tehama Coun- ty Cattlemen and their guests were to enjoy the hospitality of a new ranch host and hostess, April 1 at the 46th annual Cattlemen's Field Day. However, it has been cancelled indefinitely due to the heavy rain the end of March. Dave and Kathy Fergu- son on Evergreen Road in Cottonwood had invited the public to enjoy the day watching stock dog trials in the morning, and after lunch there would have been the $2,000 Herman Daugherty Memorial working cow horse, the all girl branding, the three man calf branding and stockmans challenge. The traditional banner across Main Street in Red Bluff was not flown this year because of the high winds. Field Days have been held each spring since Jack Owens was TCCA presi- dent for three year. Tony Turri's field days were at Bengard‚s Gal- latin Ranch and his home ranch in Flournoy.
