2 The Lion's Share ADPi Values and Etiquette Important for Virginia Harris Thomas '47 V irginia Harris Thomas '47 joined Alpha Omicron Chapter with her childhood best friend and immediately appreciated being surrounded by individuals who were all-around good girls and in good scholastic standings. She was proud to be a member of Alpha Omicron, especially because of their excellent standing in sports and intramurals. Her big sister, Marge Stauffer Creager '46, was a Big Woman on Campus, and as a physical education major, was a role model for Virginia. After graduation, Virginia earned her master's degree in secondary education administration from OSU, and then taught for a few years before getting married. As a physical education teacher, Virginia made it possible for all school systems in Stillwater to have a physical education program. "It took about two years of convincing the school board to find funding, but then every school in Oklahoma got a P.E. room and program." As an alumna, Virginia became involved with the Oklahoma Alumnae Association, serving as State President from 1949-1950. She was responsible for contacting alumnae and presiding at the annual state meetings. Through this role, Virginia had the honor of getting to know T. Mae Sole, who was in charge of setting up state meetings, keeping alumnae records, and encouraging alumnae associations in Oklahoma. Virginia also stayed involved with Alpha Omicron, serving as Chapter Advisor for four years. As a teacher of etiquette in her adult life, Virginia was a self-proclaimed strict Chapter Advisor. She made sure the women learned their etiquette, just as Virginia did as a Delta when she would sit at the Housemother's table during dinner. With a growing family of three daughters and a son, Virginia turned from advising Alpha Omicron to advising her family and raising them with the ADPi standards she knew so well. Her three daughters were Chi Omegas and Tri Delts at other universities. She hopes today's Delta Members will be active in their communities, churches, politics, and always be on their best behavior. Today, Virginia stays very busy with activities, including two PEO chapters in Stillwater and Tulsa, Rotary, as a trustee of the Methodist Church, and as a Carlisle consultant. Now living in Tulsa at the University Club Tower, she also says there are 10 ADPis who live in the Montereau retirement community. We are making this dream a reality. Thanks to all contributing individuals, including Advisors, ADPi alumnae, collegians, and parents, as well as HC Board members. As pledges and donations are received, we will be able to award more scholarships. Please meet our first three scholarship recipients for 2015-2016: H annah Barber '13, from Lawton, Oklahoma, is a junior majoring in natural resource ecology. She currently serves as the Chapter's Finance Vice President, in addition to other leadership roles at OSU, including the Biological and Agricultural Engineer organizations. During the summer, she is a Giddy Up 'n Go therapeutic volunteer. Hannah indicated that as a freshman, AO was a significant reason that she found friends and a home at OSU. K iah Lowe '12, from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is a senior apparel merchandising major. Kiah has served AO as the Junior Panhellenic Delegate, the New Member Coordinator, and the Spirit Chairman. She was awarded the Outstanding New Member 2012-2013 award. She volunteers for Wings of Hope, a domestic violence center in Stillwater. Kiah attributes that finding her home at ADPi allowed her to grow socially and professionally. She says, "I can't imagine my life without ADPi; it is a part of me and the reason for my success at OSU. Without ADPi, I would not be who I am today." S avannah Stimpson '14, from Plano, Texas, is a junior in strategic communications. She has chaired special events for AO and served as Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus Oklahoma State, which she attributes as a major tool in advancing her education. "Being an ADPi means love, respect, and the never-ending journey to being the best person I can be." AO's 75th Anniversary Scholarship, ADPi Foundation Established with the ADPi Foundation during AO's 75th anniversary celebration at OSU, the earnings are awarded annually to AO initiates who apply.
