I t is crazy to think that we are already almost half way through another semester at Indiana Gamma. Since the spring, Phi Delta Theta has excelled in all facets of Fraternity and campus life. Academic Accolades Academics at Indiana Gamma Chapter are better than ever. Last semester, we ranked first among all Fraternities with a 3.40 GPA and our Phikeia class ranked first in GPA among all new Fraternity members. This is an indication that we are not only academically strong today, but we should continue to perform well for many years to come. Philanthropic Pursuits We completed a philanthropy event in September benefitting the ALS Association. Throughout the course of the week, we had ice cream give backs, a speaker, and a main event where soccer was played. The speaker shared the story of his diagnosis with ALS and it was incredibly inspiring. At the main event, participants were able to buy water balloons or buckets of ice water to pour on Brothers in attendance. Overall, the event went well, and we raised several hundred dollars for the ALS Association. Expanding the Indiana Gamma Brotherhood Recently, we have seen incredible interest in men wanting to join the Fraternity. We had a successful recruitment event where 50 new students came to The Castle to enjoy food and yard games. We have also seen interest from current sophomores, and as a result, we inducted a four-man Phikeia class early in October. After their induction, we will have a total of 85 members. Our goal in formal recruitment and spring open recruitment periods will be to add a total of 30 new members. Staying Active in the Community Our Chapter volunteered at serval community locations and completed both bystander intervention and risk management training. The Brothers have been extremely cooperative and have given their time and energy to worthwhile causes. With the conclusion of Homecoming festivities, I am happy to announce that we, and our partners from Delta Delta Delta, won the overall Homecoming award. This award is based on participation in campus events, lawn decorations, and a cheer competition. We are also proud to announce that senior Drew Horn '16 was voted Homecoming King. Kleberg Emerging Leaders Institute We had five members attend the Kleberg Emerging Leaders institute this summer. All attendees had a wonderful time and benefitted greatly from the experience. Jacob Reeves '18 and I were named Whole Man Scholars and participated in extensive leadership training. We gained insight on the importance of being a leader committed to those who follow you. While at Kleberg, we were given numerous national awards and recognitions. Indiana Gamma was recognized as a Gold Star Chapter, meaning we were in the top 20% of chapters in the U.S. and Canada. We were awarded Excellence in Scholarship, Community Service Citation, Bigger Ritual, and the GHQ Trophy. I am very proud of what we as a Chapter have accomplished so far, but our success to this point has also made me excited to see what we will accomplish in the coming months. I know we are capable of big things and I look forward to sharing our successes with you. We as a Chapter realize that none of our accomplishments would be possible without alumni support, so thank you for all you do to help the Fraternity. Please feel free to come by the Chapter House at any time for a visit.
