Page 2 Cal Delta News & Views Sixties-Era CA Deltas Celebrate 50th Anniversary with Fun-Filled Reunion J im Wilson '68 got it right when he suggested that it was time. It was time to rally as many of the '60s-era members as possible for a San Diego reunion. Nearly 50 years had passed since he left SDSU with many fond memories of his time with CA Delta. With the aid of Ed Ryan '67, John Steepy '69, John Kiefer '67, and John Renna '69, the reunion (held in July) brought guys in from all around the country, including Virginia, Missouri, Iowa, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Belmont Park. Overall, there were more than 50 people representing CA Delta SigEps, spouses, and friends who came together and left with even more happy memories of our times together, old and new. ALUMNI IMPRESSED WITH CHAPTER HOUSE RENOVATIONS The Friday afternoon barbecue was hosted at the chapter house. Many of the guys had yet to see the results of the 2011 major renovation and were very impressed. We all enjoyed the craft cooking of John Renna; he fired up the grill and then served Santa Maria tri-tip with perfection. John very generously donated the food and beverages for this event and it was truly mouthwatering. A '60s-era oldies band got the crowd dancing and having a good time at the Chula Vista American Legion Hall. Thanks to John Kiefer for the setup. An afternoon at the Del Mar Race Track gave everyone a chance to donate some cash to the Turf Club and to console each other with fun stories of the past and present. The event was very nicely capped off with an informal dinner at the beautiful home of John and Karen Steepy. They went all out to ensure that the food and hospitality were first rate. (It had to be Karen. John, like many of us, doesn't have that skill set!). PLAN YOUR REUNION TODAY One major takeaway for you '70s-era guys and younger: you shouldn't wait so long before you get together. Do it now and do it more often. And don't forget to include the old guys. If you need a place, we know where you can borrow a very nice fraternity house!
