Now online: www.upandcomingweekly.com Call 484-6200 a TOURISM BENEFITS CUMBERLAND COUNTY The Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) works to position Cumberland County as a destination for meetings, tournaments and individual travel. The bureau is funded by taxes paid by visitors staying overnight in hotels. Although county taxpayers do not fund efforts to increase tourism, they receive the benefit. According to the NC Department of Commerce, the economic impact from tourism to Cumberland County is $490 million per year. Additionally, Cumberland County tourism generates $35.7 million in local and state taxes, which represents a $108.39 tax savings to each county resident. BUREAU CHARTS SUCCESSFUL FIRST QUARTER In the first quarter of the 2015/16 fiscal year, the FACVB secured 20 meetings, tournaments and group tours for Cumberland County in the coming months and years. These events represent 8,439 room nights at county hotels and will create an estimated economic impact of $3,141,108. Additionally, in the first quarter, the FACVB: * Attended three trade shows where staff made 53 contacts and secured 7 leads for future business. * Serviced 4,174 visitor inquiries at three visitor centers, distributed 58,600 Fayetteville Area Destination Guides and fulfilled 86 group service requests. * Promoted 680 area events in trade magazines and on media websites. * Distributed four themed e-promotions to over 10,000 recipients. * Issued 7 press releases, facilitated and serviced three travel writer visits and secured 31 pieces of publicity in travel and local media. * Coordinated local representation and attended two partner days at the two I-95 VisitNC welcome centers. * Completed a new guide for sports tournament recruitment.
