OCTOBER 21-27, 2015 UCW 17 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Sometimes living a balanced and healthy life can seem impossible in today's fast-paced, technological and convenience driven world. Even trying to make an informed decision can be overwhelming. On Oct. 24, The Wellness Clinic and Natural Health Expo stands ready to set the record straight. Instead of being confused, worried or stressed about the course life is taking, Dr. Fateria Johnson, the event organizer plans for each participant to leave inspired, motivated and uplifted. Johnson's inspiration for this event comes from a life changing experience followed by more than a decade of research and experience in this field. "I was diagnosed with a hyper thyroid years ago," said Johnson. "I decided to try natural health alternatives to treat it and that worked for me. I no longer have thyroid issues." The purpose of the expo is not to discourage people from allopathic (conventional) medicine, but to help people understand that there are also holistic options that get results – not just for illnesses but for a lifetime healthy living. "Getting people to see that there are alternatives is important," said Johnson. "It takes balance. There are great medical doctors and facilities. We can all work together to help people live healthy lives. That is the beauty of nature." The event includes presentations coving topics like gentle chair yoga for pain relief, the Happy Mind Matrix Clinic, a breaking stereotypes fitness and balance clinic, a clinic about GMOs and healthy foods and how to enjoy wellness in a toxic world. The presentations run from 10:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. A variety of vendors are scheduled to attend the expo as well and there will be giveaways throughout the day. Vendors will offer massage therapy, essential oils, sustainable clothes and jewelry, alternative medicines, health products and more. "This is really about finding your happy," said Johnson. "We will have drawings and demonstrations and get people in the frame of mind for wellness. I am always thinking about how to enjoy wellness. I use all organic products – my make-up, shampoo and deodorant are all organic. I feel much better when I use these products. What we do, eat and think makes a difference." Embracing wellness is an all encompassing lifestyle for Johnson. Her goal is not to pressure anyone but to educate the community and offer opportunities to talk with professionals about some of the more natural ways to stay healthy and treat things like stress, pain, sports injuries, fibromyalgia, arthritis, gout, plantar fasciitis and more. Tickets are $9 for military, $10 for students and $12 for general admission. Children who come with their parents get in free. The event is at Methodist University.
