The Crescent S how up. Take advantage of opportunities and challenges that life presents. Always keep your Delta Mu sisters close to your heart. These are just a few of the life tips that Mary Godchaux Wieck '75 has for collegians when pursuing personal and professional interests. Upon attending the University of Alabama, little did Mary know that she would become part of something much bigger than herself and gain lifelong friends who she proudly calls sisters. "During recruitment, I was immediately drawn to the kind, welcoming nature of the women in Delta Mu, and knew that this would be the place I would call my home away from home. I am proud to continue the incredible legacy of my mother, who was a Tri Delta at LSU," she says. Sisterhood is not only for four years, it is for life. For Mary, this could not ring more true, and she is thankful for the valuable life lessons and skills she became equipped with to pursue future successes after college. "Joining Tri Delta reinforced the values that I was taught growing up. My sorority sisters taught me that those values are not only important during your college years, but also in your personal and professional lives. The continued closeness to my sorority sisters is a true testament to our perpetual bond of friendship." Mary's tremendous involvement in Delta Mu carried into her professional success as she went on to pursue a fulfilling career in marketing. "With frequent trips to market and continual changes in fashion, I found the job challenging and thrilling. When my son, Stephen, was born, I was able to leave my first successful career and focus fully on raising him. During those years, it was the most important thing I felt I could do. Now that he is grown, along with my involvement in the family partnership, I now have the freedom of time to do and pursue my interests, travel, keep up with friends (particularly with many of my pledge sisters), and help take care of my parents. I find this third stage of my career always engaging, challenging, and satisfying." As an alumna, Mary has been active with the Eve of Janus Benefit in Nashville, Tennessee, which benefits the Tri Delta Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. "I have certainly learned that Tri Delta is much more than my pledge class. I am part of a much larger sisterhood, including members before, during, and after my years at Delta Mu. As I worked with the Eve of Janus Benefit, I had the pleasure of working with Tri Deltas from many different universities and have enjoyed sharing stories and memories of their Tri Delta experience," she recalls. Mary has expanded her leadership by serving on many committees, which included chairing the Eve of Janus Benefit event in 1988, and continues her involvement as an active patron. In addition to her continued involvement with the local church, Mary enjoys being an active member of Habitat for Humanity, Christ Church Cathedral, MBA, Nashville Symphony, Nashville Opera, Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and St. George's Kindergarten. Mary and her husband, Larry, enjoy spending time with their son, Stephen, who is a graduate of the University of Alabama. You can contact Mary at ltwmgw@aol.com.
