The two men who held up the Diamond Match Company store at Camp 1 in Feather river canyon late Saturday evening and secured $2,900 in cash, were captured late Wednesday evening at Rock creek on the main line of Western Pacific by three deputy sheriffs of Butte county, assisted by Dixie Johnson, an Indian prospector, who trailed the two hold-up men from the store to the place of their capture. The men gave the names of Ben McKernan and Jim Patterson. They were lumberjacks who had been employed at the camp until a short time before the robbery took place. Dixie Johnson, whose ability as a trailer re- sulted in their capture, followed the tracks of the two men to their camp in a swamp, about two miles from the store and from there followed their trail to a small bridge over Rock Creek. — Sept. 30, 1915 100 YEARS AGO...
