Aaron Rodg- ers dissected another defense on a national stage, building a big enough cushion for the Green Bay Packers to overcome a late rush by Jamaal Charles and the Kan- sas City Chiefs. Rodgers threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns, includ- ing three to Randall Cobb, and Green Bay beat Kansas City 38- 28 on Monday night. Rodgers led the Packers (3- 0) on two successful first-quar- ter drives that ended with scor- ing passes to Cobb and rookie Ty Montgomery. He found James Jones for a 27-yard touchdown re- ception late in the second quarter for a 17-point lead at the break. Charles rushed for three touch- downs for Kansas City (1-2), which followed its stunning, last-minute loss at home to Denver with a re- spectable fourth-quarter effort at raucous Lambeau Field. With big threat Alex Davila un- der the weather Corning failed to score in the first half, though Da- vila had a touchdown negated by a penalty call and the Cardinals were able to recover a couple of muffed punts. Meanwhile the Tigers managed to score and complete the 2-point conversion with 3:03 left in the first quarter and kick a field goal with 7 seconds left in the half. In the second half, it was al- most all Corning with Davila scoring twice and Oscar Garcia once to put Corning up 19-11 "I didn't come up with some magic play at halftime," coach John Studer told the team fol- lowing the game. "You made it happen." The Cardinals' scoring started with a 30-yard Davila run with 6:30 left in the third. Davila would go in again from the 12 with 2:57 left in the third. The play was set up when Eve- rardo Sanchez recovered a fum- bled Tigers snap, giving the Car- dinals the ball at the Tigers 35. Garcia then carried the ball to the 2-yard line, but a false start on the next snap pushed the ball back to the 7. Davila took the ball in from the 7 but another call, this time for il- legal formation, pushed it back to the 12 — forcing Davila to carry it in from there. He did so on the next play.
