Rho Chapter Strand of Pearls E verything fell into place for Rachel Lipkin '10 when it came to AEPhi. She decided to join before she even got to college. One of her co-counselors at Camp Wise, Amy Saltzman '07, always sported her AEPhi clothing and raved about her experiences at the sorority. Rachel was sold. She was also destined to be a Big/Little pair with Mandy Gross '09, who coincidently had a brother in Sigma Alpha Mu, just like Rachel. During her time in Rho, Rachel formed great friendships and made many memories in the house. "From Disney Channel Original Movie nights to pokey sticks to lying on the couch watching trashy TV, I absolutely loved living in the house," she says. "If I could relive any memory with my AEPhi sisters it would be spending time with my Phi Pham." Her Little, Jenna Eisenberg '11, even lives in the same apartment complex as her, and Rachel stays connected to Allie Lashner '12 and Hannah Tuschman '13. Rachel is in her second year of graduate school at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at Ohio State. During her first year, she didn't have much time to be involved as an alumna; but, that didn't stop Leslie Klaidman, University of Hartford '88, the national president, from messaging her on Facebook asking her to be an advisor. "How could I say no to the national president?" she says. "Now I am advising the vice presidents of programming, philanthropy, and standards." She understands that being an advisor can be overwhelming, but she encourages other alumnae to take on the role. "You can make that commitment as much or as little as you want," Rachel says. "At first, due to my graduate school schedule, I was not able to be as active as I would have liked. Being an advisor has truly helped me get back involved with AEPhi. I care so much about the well- being and success of Rho, and I get to work with them to ensure their success now and in the future." Rachel's advice to the undergraduates and younger alumnae is to turn their passions into careers. She is excited for the future of Rho and can't wait to see what it has in store. "Over the last year, I have seen a new and improved Rho Chapter," she says. "They have grown tremendously in size, in programming, and passion for the chapter. I am so proud to be an advisor to this group of wonderful women." Rachel is specializing in Jewish non-profit management and is a FEREP Scholar through the Jewish Federations of North America. She is interning in the Development Office at the Columbus Jewish Federations this year. She hopes to one day become an executive director of a Jewish Federation. During her free time, she enjoys exploring Columbus, trying new foods, reading, playing tennis, and spending time with friends. She is also the mother to a two-year-old maltipoo, Kennedy Sacks Lipkin. From seeing everyone on Bid Day to being moved by the initiation rituals to frequent toga parties, AEPhi was home to her. Terri's mother, Martha Klein Gersman '54, was also member of Rho. As an alumna, she decided to become a chapter advisor because she wanted to give back to the place that was her home for four years. "I wanted to guide women to their highest potential in scholarship, leadership, and service," she says. She believes it is important to stay in contact with the chapter. "Alumnae have so much to share in terms of experience and networking," she says. "Especially since there are approximately 170 members, now is the time to help give back." Volunteering does not have to be a huge time commitment. Terri says that it can take as little or as much time as you have. "It's such a rewarding experience to watch these women grow, mature, and excel individually and as a group." In her position as an advisor, Terri also keeps in contact with other alumnae. She enjoys hearing back from them and writing e-mails about the chapter's accomplishments. Terri advises undergraduates and younger alumnae to be flexible. "Your path will be winding," she says. "Keep an open mind and learn everything you can because where you start will not be where you end up." Terri lives in Hilliard, Ohio, with her husband of 32 years, Scott, and has two children, Davi (26) and Matt (24). She is a market researcher for WP Glimcher in Columbus, where she does primary and secondary research on markets and shoppers for a shopping center and mall owner and developer.
