Brose returned from a knee injury in January and helped lead the Lady Spar- tans to an 8-5 league record to share the EAL-South with Paradise. She scored 13.6 points per game and aver- aged 3.7 assists. " I was just really happy with how Lily progressed from the first time she took the floor to each game get- ting better and better," coach Kathy Brandt said. Brown emerged as another scoring threat for the Spartans, particularly after dropping in 21 points against Oroville. Sports "From that point on she seemed to take on a role of scoring that we needed to have," Brandt said. Schatz was another go-to scorer and averaged 7.4 points per game and also guarded opposing team's best post players. "She scored when we needed her to score," Brandt said. Blaser and McInnis each averaged more than 11 points for the Spartans Blaser emerged as the floor general for the Spar- tans and his leadership was a crucial ingredient in the Spartans EAL-South cham- pionship season. "Everything kind of went through him this year," coach Stan Twitchell said. "When he got in foul trouble or was out of the game it affected us as a team." Jonah McInnis gave the Spartans an overall athletic presence. "I don't know if anyone played harder," Twitchell said of his post man. Avila didn't play his junior year, but made quite an impression in his senior season. "It was a really neat senior year," Twitchell said. "Man, he helped us win a couple of really big ball games down the stretch." The Wizards, on the other hand, seem to have no answers after a performance their coach termed ''unprofessional.'' Golden State found the 3-point shooting touch that had been missing for the previous five games of the road swing and routed the Wizards from the opening quarter in a 120-100 win Monday night. The Warriors were 15 for 23 on 3- pointers, a season-best 65.2 percent. ''It was like the basket was big for everybody. Everybody was making shots,'' Monta Ellis said. Ellis led the Warriors with 25 points 3 p.m. and was 10 for 16 from the floor, including 2 for 4 on 3-pointers. He did- n't play at all in the fourth quarter as both teams emptied their benches. The long-range barrage was a sharp turnaround from the previous five games, when the Warriors shot 24.2 percent from 3-point range. ''I wish they would have came a lit- tle bit earlier, but we're going to take this one, go home and see what hap- pens,'' Ellis said. DENVER (AP) — Keith Smart already had the full support of his players. Now, the Sacramento Kings coach has the backing of the orga- nization to go with it. David Lee had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Golden State, which had six players in double figures. It was Golden State's highest-scoring game since beating Toronto 138-100 on March 25, 2011. Nick Young scored 25 points, 15 in the fourth quarter, and John Wall had 20 points and 14 assists for Washing- ton, which lost for the seventh time in eight games. ''We get one win and come into a situation where we have a team at the end of a road trip, in a back-to-back and we come in with that effort to start the game,'' Washington coach Randy Wittman said. ''Inexcusable, and that's on me. ... That is unprofessional. I apol- ogize to everybody that had to watch it and had to come here tonight.'' Golden State had run into problems in the second half their previous two games, scoring a then season-low 36 second-half points in a 105-83 loss at Philadelphia Friday. The Warriors had an even worse showing Sunday at Toronto, scoring 28 points and losing PHOENIX (AP) — Albert Pujols went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in his spring debut and the Los Angeles Angels beat an Oakland Athletics split squad 9-1 Monday. Pujols, who signed a 10- MCT photo Golden State's David Lee puts up a shot, Monday, in Washington. 83-75 despite taking a nine-point half- time lead. This time, Golden State jumped out to a lead so big there was no chance of giving it up in the second half. Ellis hit a running 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer to put Golden State ahead 41- 24. The Warriors shot 71.4 percent from the field in the quarter, and were 5 of 6 from 3-point range. It was Gold- en State's highest-scoring quarter this season, and the most points the Wiz- ards have allowed in a quarter. ''Some guys knew, we lost the game before we came on the court,'' Wall said. ''Too much joking in the locker room. Too much joking through warm-ups.'' It never got better for Washington. The Warriors extended the lead, going on a 19-2 run that started late in the opening quarter and into the second to make the lead 48-24, and they led by as many as 25 in the second quarter. year, $254 million free- agent contract in the offsea- son, drove in a run with a double down the left-field line in the first, hit a sharp single to left in the second and popped up with the bases loaded in the third. Left-hander C.J. Wilson, another free agent acquired by the Angels in the offsea- son, allowed a hit and a walk in his two-inning spring debut. Manny Ramirez went 0 for 3 and is hitless in five plate appearances for the A's. Kings extend contract of coach Keith Smart President of basketball operations Geoff Petrie announced Monday the team extended Smart's con- tract through the 2012-13 season. The 47-year-old Smart stepped in when Paul Westphal was fired in early January. For Smart, this was another chance to show his leadership skills on the bench after the Golden State Warriors let him go last April after one solid season. He appreciates the opportu- nity, even if he didn't think another shot would happen this soon. ''Many coaches in the NBA, front office people called me after that hap- pened (in Golden State) and said, 'You did a great job. You coached that team. You showed that you could coach in the NBA. You will get another opportunity,''' Smart said Monday night before a game at Denver. ''(The players) have responded pretty well to what I've been doing. They take constructive criticism and take a pat on the back well. We are trying to build something that will last a long time — not a quick fix deal.'' And that's why Petrie elected to make this move. Avila Reddick helps A's beat Cubs MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Josh Reddick collected two more hits and Brandon Allen drove in another run to help an Oakland Athletics split-squad beat the Chicago Cubs 8-7 on Monday. Reddick has at least one hit in each of his three exhi- bition games and Allen already has eight RBIs this spring. Non-roster invitee Yordy Cabrera led off the ninth inning with a home run against right-hander Tony Zych, lifting Oakland to the victory. Blake DeWitt hit a three- run homer off A's starter Bartolo Colon in the second inning. Jeff Baker added two hits, including a double, and scored two runs for Chicago.
