2 THE CAL SIG S igma Chi's Alpha Beta Chapter at UC Berkeley finished the 2014- 15 school year on a high note. Eleven new members were initiated near the end of the spring semester, joining our ranks as brothers. Our most recent initiate was the 1669th in Alpha Beta history. Excitingly, all 11 of our newly initiated brothers will be moving into our chapter house at 2345 College Avenue, giving us a very large group of live- in brothers. Thanks to Magister Osama Nawab '16 for his dedicated work throughout the new member process. Our seniors graduated at the conclusion of the spring semester. Many of them have traveled across the globe before beginning their professional careers or heading to graduate school; we wish them the best of luck in all their endeavors. Last semester, we hosted a barbecue in which active brothers and alumni enjoyed burgers while discussing their respective experience with the Alpha Beta Chapter. We know we'll see our recently graduated seniors—the newest alumni—at Alpha Beta and Bay Area alumni events in the future. Our Derby Days included every Panhellenic sorority on campus and concluded successfully with over $14,000 raised for the Huntsman Cancer Institute. As a chapter, we've pledged one hour of community service during the school year for every $100 raised through Derby Days. This past spring, our philanthropy chairmen, Markus Kytömaa '17 and Eric Jho '17, organized service projects through the Berkeley Food and Housing Project, and we'll continue volunteering there to give back to the greater Berkeley community. Following a busy spring, we kept up the pace in the summer. Our Housing Corporation continued improvements on the chapter house, renovating five rooms and making the switch from paper towels to eco-friendly hand dryers. During the Balfour Leadership Training Workshop in Bowling Green, Ohio, we received the Peterson Award for the first time in six years, recognizing Alpha Beta as one of the best Sigma Chi chapters in the country. If you know any UC Berkeley students interested in learning more about Sigma Chi or fraternities in general, please have them reach out to one of our recruitment chairmen or direct them to our website, calsigmachi.org, to fill out the brief recruitment interest survey. In hoc, Connor J. Gullstad '17 Consul gullstad@berkeley.edu A large delegation of brothers traveled to UC Davis for the annual California Bay Area Province Workshop.
