page 2 The lyre letter matter what the circumstances were, you always had someone to talk to and someone who really understood your feelings," Kendra says. Rachel agrees, "We were already very close, but I think ACW helped keep us together as we grew older." Even outside of the family, they all still make an effort to keep in touch with Xi sisters. "Luckily due to the point in our lives, I feel like I see my Xi sisters every other weekend at weddings," Laura said. "Many of us meet up and do girls' nights, plan vacations together, and have dinner nights at each other's houses." Kendra adds, "Alpha Chi Omega is a wonderful networking system. It is amazing to see where the women of Xi Chapter end up." The women keep up with Xi Chapter through the youngest member, Sara. Even after she graduates this year, they will forever be connected. "It will be a bittersweet day when we don't have a first- hand connection to the house," Giana says. "Yet, the bond keeps us together in a very special way." I don't know what I would've done without my sisters." —Laura Novotny Sinclair '07 "Rope 'em and Ride 'em during freshman year." —Kendra Novotny '09 A s the women of Alpha Chi Omega prepare for another year at 716 N. 16th Street, we are reminded of the many reasons we joined, and most importantly, why we stayed. After spending a summer apart, we reunite for formal recruitment to welcome a new pledge class of 60+ women into our "home away from home" with help from VP New Member Educator Paige Leffers '13. For many of us, the legacy of our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, or cousins brought us to find our place at Alpha Chi, as others may have been first in their family to join a Greek community. Yet, no matter our backgrounds, as women of Xi Chapter we all share a legacy of endless sisterhood support. FULL EVENT CALENDAR This semester, we look forward to our busy fall schedule packed with new and exciting events, including Amy Day, philanthropic events, sisterhoods, Homecoming week, new member activities, and, of course, Husker football games. Amy Day will be held October 2-4, as our national president, Diane Blackwelder, and immediate past president, Marsha Grady, will join in the celebration of one of our founding members, Amy DuBois. We look forward to continuing the legacy of sisterhood and increasing alumni support during this weekend! ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE We are excited to commence the fall 2015 semester with an improved all-house GPA. At Xi Chapter, our GPA has improved steadily throughout the past few years, boosting our academic ranking within the Greek community and helping with recruitment retention rates. This fall, we can proudly announce an increased GPA of 8.5 percent, raising our ranking to ninth place within the Panhellenic council at UNL. With dedication from VP Intellectual Development Danielle Proskovec '13, members have the opportunity to participate in study hours, test and exam outlook check-ups, test files supplied by current and past members, and earn points for excellent achievement on tests and quizzes. We look forward to implementing a new member academic plan this fall with our new pledge class and continuing to seek greater GPA achievements!
